...debut, the band's second album De Stijl (which means "The Style" in Dutch) was released in 2000. This was before White Blood Cells and what many consider the group's best, Elephant. I decided to buy De Stijl based upon sound clips I heard of two of the tracks, "Apple Blossom" and "I'm Bound To Pack It Up." We begin with You're Pretty Good Looking ... ...it is my favourite on De Stijl and you should listen to it as soon as possible. I'm Bound To Pack It Up was the other half of the duo of songs that made me buy this album. Although not as good as "Apple Blossom," it is still an excellent track and another of my favourites. The mournful violin (played by Paul Henry Ossy) is a suitable addition to the song, and the lyrics are some of the group's best. "The bus is warm and softly lit, and a hundred ...

Advantages: Dirty garage rock with a bluesy edge Disadvantages: Some very weak tracks
...prominent in the early 1900's De Stijl is the second full length offering from The White Stripes. The White Stripes consist of two members, Jack White on guitar, piano and vocals and Meg White on drums. This album was released in 2001 on XL Recordings and was produced by Jack White at the Third Man Studios in Detroit which is where both Meg and Jack grew up. Now onto the tracks:
1. You’re pretty good looking (For a Girl)

Just Awesome Review ofDe Stijl - White Stripes (The)by
TaraLothian
Advantages: Some amazing country and blues tracks Disadvantages: Some slow, dull songs that are really just filler
De Stijl. An interesting name, an interesting cover, some very interesting songs. The White Stripes second album, it is completely different from their first. More soulful songs, more lively songs, a larger variety of genres and playing styles.
There are 13 songs, much less than on their first album which boasted 17, but some of them seem of a higher quality... and some of a much lower.
1 - You're Pretty Good Looking (For A Girl) ~ This lively ... ...in the morning just to wake me up a bit. It's simple, it's smooth, it's fun
2 - Hello Operator ~ Hmmm... a little out there. I'd have to say not one of my favourite songs
3 - Little Bird ~ Although at first I thought this song was terrible, it's really started growing on me. It recaptures the bluesy genius of their first album
4 - Apple Blossom ~ They really should have released this song. It's so sweet, genuine, romantic. I love it, and I'm sure ...

...styles on their second album, De Stijl, which is Dutch for "the style." Perhaps the album's diversity -- which incorporates elements of bubblegum, cabaret, blues, and classic rock -- shouldn't come as a surprise from a band that dedicates its album to bluesman Blind Willie McTell and Dutch artist Gerrit Rietveld. Nevertheless, it's refreshing to hear the band go from the Tommy James-style pop of "You're Pretty Good Looking" to the garagey stomp of ... ...out on the languid, fuzzy "Sister, Do You Know My Name?" as well as insistent rockers like "Little Bird" and "Why Can't You Be Nicer to Me?" As distinctive as it is diverse, De Stijl blends the Stripes' arty leanings with enough rock muscle to back up the band's ambitions. ...

Advantages: The White Stripes at their best Disadvantages: none!!
...DeStijl is the second album from Detroit's cult band The WhiteStripes. It carries on from where the eponimous debut left off, skillfully blending deep blues influences with the unpolished garage sound they helped to create. Every song on this album is a classic waiting to be heard and is guarenteed to stick in your head for days. The beautiful 'Apple Blossom' will bring a smile to your face on even the greyest of days whereas the stomping beat of 'Jumble Jumble' will leave you tapping your feet for hours. DeStijl is my personal favourire Stripes album and is most definately on my top ten albums of all time. The WhiteStripes are, in my opinion, the most exciting band around at the moment and each and every one of their albums should be a compulsory addition to the CD collection....
