Advantages: You'll get lost in the world of brilliant musicianship Disadvantages: Once hooked you wont stop listening
When SiKth first burst onto the music scene, the media went wild about them! Finally Britain had an answer to Slipknot. The band were completely unique, and quite frankly brilliant. However they unfortunately did not manage to grab the imagination of the record buying public quite as much. This though should definatly change with this second bold attempt. This should be the album to push SiKth out into the limelight, and allow them to overtake all ... ...If your already a SiKth fan then be prepared for a different assault to "The Trees are Dead and Dried Out, Wait For Something Wild", because this time round they seem to have upped the ante on the musical technicality. Although the musicianship displayed on the last album was insane, This takes it to a new level. It is also alot more accessible for first listeners, this time round. This should be the album to push SiKth out into the limelight, and allow them to overtake all of the lesser bands getting more attention.
If your already a SiKth fan then be prepared for a different assault to "The Trees are Dead and Dried Out, Wait For Something Wild", because this time round they seem to have upped the ante on the musical technicality. Although the musicianship displayed on the last album was insane, This takes it to a new level. It is also alot more accessible for first listeners, this time round. There is less of the wierd random songs e.g "Tupelo", "When will the forest speak...?", and more straight up music, however it is still the same wacky SiKth signature sound! For alot of people (myself included), the odd songs fitted right in, on the last album. But for the listeners who grew impatient with them, fear not! It is not the story this time round!
The first song "Bland Street Bloom" is a blistering attack on the senses, that launches you straight into SiKth's new world. It is extremely heavy, and wacky all at the same time. This song is over 5 mins, which is actually a common feature on this album.
"Flogging the Horses" is just as powerful as the opener, with a brilliant song structure. It is crazy throughout the whole song, until the end when it slows down, and gives a beautiful contrast. The dual vocal work on this song is also breathtaking!
After being lulled into a false sense of security "Way Beyond The Fond Old River" will knock you straight back into realtiy withits strangely ctachy but brutal chorus, and brilliant riffs.
"Summer Rain"'s intro displays some interesting bass techniques that create a brilliant sound. One of the albums weaker songs it tends to not quite have the force of some of the other tracks, but it still a good song.
"In This Light" is a straight up more easy listening song that will get stuck in your head for the rest of the day! Again one of the weaker songs, but still worthy nonetheless.
"Sanguine Seas Of Bigotry" picks up where "way beyond the fond old river" left off. Its fiery attack will leave you gobsmacked after listening to it.
"Mermaid Slur" is this albums "When will the forest speak...?". It is almost a mini version of it! It also leads cleverly into "When The Moments Gone".
This track almost seems like easy listening metal until it, cascades into crazyville towrads the end!
"Part Of The Friction"'s verse vocals are some of my favourite on the album. It also has a very melodic chorus, with the vocals executed brilliantly.
"Where do We Fall", is another catchy song, that sounds like SiKth maybe going soft, until "Another Sinking Ship" blasts out of your speakers, like molten lava from a volcano top! This I personally think is one of the album highlights, it shows SiKth's ability to be different but just as brutal as any other metal band.
The Album closer "As the erath spins around", is full of great riffs and as the outro fades out, you will probably listen to the whole cd over again!!!
Standout tracks: Bland Street Bloom, Flogging the horses, Another sinking ship.
This album although more accessible than the other SiKth release, will still take a while to tap into your head, so give it time!
An impressive album which delivers track after track of powerful music. Starting with Bland Street Bloom, a take on modern day society blasting straight through other great songs 'Flogging the horses','Way beyond the old river' and 'Summer Rain' moving onto then a much slower and depending on your view meaningful song 'In this light' a song about being with a partner or person who despite being with them you feel alone due to them not listening to ... ...album back to its extreme rock and then into a seemingly standard for Sikth albums the odd track aka 'Mermaid Slur', more a poem than a song. The album then continues to power through 5 more songs giving the album the perfect end to the second full album produced by sikth. All in all a great album for fans of Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah or Shellshock
This album was bought for £11.99 at HMV and came with a signed poster by the band, a nice little ...
