Album Reviews: Q (10/03, p.124) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...A unique spin on roots and a snapshot of the creation of lover's rock, given extra freakness by fuzz guitars and backward tapes..."
Advantages: Unaged and powerful poetry, beautiful music and production, memorable artwork Disadvantages: Short
...primarily a print figure, it wasn't surprising that he'd marry his rhythmic Jamaican creole to the sounds of reggae. He's a powerful enough writer and orator on his own, but the addition of bass heavy music adds lead into his boxing gloves.
Linton's years with Island were the most successful and fertile, Forces Of Victory being the defining moment of that period.
Though barely half an hour in length, each of the 8 tracks deliver a powerful message within some seriously high quality music.
Though not a singer, his mesmerising monotone delivery commands your attention. And it's not just how he's saying things, it's what he's saying. The respected producer and bassist DennisBovell and band's music punctuates and draws emphasis in familiar Dub style; the echoing percussion and keys alongside stray sound effects, rhythm guitar skanks and horns...

Advantages: Interesting Demo versions, lots of great songs Disadvantages: Mostly Demo versions, not for new Misfits fans

Most of their best songs are on this record and it's very interesting, especially for big Misfits fans, to hear their demo version recordings. Songs to look out for are Helena 2, Dr Phibes Rides Again and Monster Mash.
Whilst this album isn't recommended for people who want their first...

Advantages: It will take the test of time Disadvantages: one track is better than the other

A big progression from their first 12" Pitchin (in every direction) whilst hanging on to a yothful enthusiasm both singles on the double a-side energise the listener as you would expect coming from Jules and Paul 'Yomanda' Masterson who aren't exactly afraid of including speedy or high decibelcuts in their sets.
'Cained & Unable', as well a having one of the best single titles ever, is the stronger of the two tracks. It lures you in with its opening cascade of bassy beats and breaks into a pulsating riff that could shake a dancefloor the size of the 8,000 capacity Amnesia club in Ibiza. Full of the now customary bleeps and stange almost organic sounding effects it's seems as though this might...
