Though many were put off by the pair's more sterile folk-rock arrangements and clean choirboy harmonies, this collection shows that there was much more to their artistic palette. Songs such as "Homeward Bound", "I Am a Rock", "Cecilia" and "Mrs Robinson" all show that the duo could rock with the best of them and "The Sound of Silence" and "Bridge over Troubled Water" are just some of the beautifully timeless records the pair gave us. In fact, a more apt desription of their music would be "folk", which is where the duo's early influences lay, particularly from Bob Dylan and the Everley Brothers.

In fact, a more apt desription of their music would be "folk", which is where the duo's early influences lay, particularly from Bob Dylan and the Everley Brothers.
The album sleeve is simple with a picture of the duo whilst recording, with the inner sleeve providing three pages of text, detailing some very interesting facts, such as, the fact the duo dominated the American album charts in 1968 ... "... in a manner unparalleled since The Beatles four years before." I was actually unaware that there had been over 200 cover versions of the classic "Bridge Over Troubled Water", which will go down in musical history as one of the best songs of all time. Here, the vocal is absolutely flawless ... angels have descended from heaven to sing this one ... it's pure magic.
The duo have both enjoyed very successful solo careers with quite different styles, so you there are clearly different influences involved when they team up as a duo.
The album consists of 20 songs, which are all harmonious, but range between slower, more poignant haunting tracks such as, For Emily, Kathy's Song (In Concert), Scarborough Fair/Canticle, Whenever I May Find Her, and the very well known hymn "Silent Night", which is interestingly intertwined with "seven O'Clock News", to more up-temp tracks such as, "A Hazy Shade of Winter", "The 59th Street Bridge Song", and the infamous classic from the film The Graduate ... "Mrs Robinson".

Advantages: Beautiful music Disadvantages: Can't contain all their great songs
Released in 1991, The Definitive Simon and Garfunkel contains twenty songs performed together by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. It contains some of their best known pieces of work. ~~~ About the Duo ~~~
They first performed together as a band called Tom and Jerry in the 1950's when they were still at school. They released a couple of songs under this name with some success. In 1964, they released their first album, Wednesday Morning 3am. They released ... ...Parsley, Sage Rosmary and Thyme, also in 1966; the soundtrack to The Graduate in 1968; Bookends in 1968; and finally Bridge of Troubled Water in 1970. Almost all of their songs were written by Simon, though some were adaptions of old songs such as Scarborough Fair and Silent Night. ~~~ The tracks ~~~

A great album with all the wonderful and timeless hits from 2 brilliant singer/songwriters. I've loved S & G since i can remember. 'Bridge over troubled water' is a classic melody as is 'The sound of silence' and 'Scarborough fair' all beautiful songs to make your heart sing. This is an album i put on when i'm alone, with the lights off, just sitting there in the dark, letting the wonderful harmonies wash over me. If the boss has been on your back ...

How could anyone not like Simon and Garfunkel? Their music is just sublime, beautiful tunes with really thought-provoking lyrics sung in gorgeous harmony. When I bought this album I knew I liked their sound without having heard too much of their work This album is just perfect for people like that, it encompasses all their hits and a couple of tunes you're probably a little less familiar with. All the tunes you'd hope for are there such as Bridge ...
