Delius: Walk to the Paradise Garden; Irmelin Prelude; 2 Aquarelles

Advantages: Quintessentially English
Disadvantages: I only listened to the compostions I am familiar with!

...Warlock Serenade for Strings Capriol Suite I like these, but they ar predominantly string pieces....boo! George Butterworth A Shropshire Lad- Rhapsody Two English Idylls The Banks of the Green Willow- a popular tune most music lovers should recognise. (These two composers are excellent but not my personal favourites) Frederick Delius The Walk to the Paradise Garden- from A Village Romeo and Juliet. An opera by Delius, not totally baed on Shakespeare. This piece is written with sultry harmonies that a Debussy lover may mistake as Claude's! The Paradise Garden is a delapidated pub, not a utopic garden. This you could argue is a metaphor within the opera. The music is beautiful yet mournful as the lover decide to leave their love affair, and reflects the turmoil they both face. A delicate melange of lush melodies with saturated harmonies... Advantages: Music to take you on a magic carpet ride
Disadvantages: Nothing (unless you hate sitars)

...First of all, better get the technical stuff out of the way. This is a two-disc set, the first disc contains the original album remastered on SACD. It plays stereo on a CD player and...er stereo on an SACD player (even though the sleeve states there's a quad mix). The second disc is a normal CD which contains seven alternate versions, two studio songs previously available on the collection 'Prelude' (and 'Caught Live +5'), five live sessions tracks and one b'side. The packaging is a big cardboard fold-out thingy which takes up quite a bit of shelf space and the plastic slip-case is a nice touch. The booklet is very informative but... NO LYRICS. Such a shame as I really wanted to read along while stroking my beard. This is the period of the band before Justin Hayward really took over and it's surprising how democratic everything is...
