With 12 tracks, the twelfth being a bonus track, this album has everything a fan could want. It's got some upbeat songs that you could really dance to and some slow ones that you can relate to.Theres something for everybody.
1.Lose my breath- A classic drum beat starts this song off and of course with Beyonce shouting 'hit me'. This song has already been released as a single a few months ago but would satisfy any 'shake your booty' lovers out there.The beat is continued through-out the song and accompainied by a dramatic sounding keyboard. With two verses, a bridge and a chorus that repeats three times and fades out, this song is very catchy and is definately one to sing along to. Written by the girls,Beyonce Knowles,Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and produced by Rodney 'Darkchild' Jenkins and Beyonce Knowles.
2.Soldier (feat.T.I and Lil Wayne)- This is a true RnB combined with Rap song. Each Verse is sung by a different person, the first being T.I., then Kelly,then Beyonce, then T.I. again, then michelle and finally Lil Wayne. This track also has a good strong beat and the rap verses complement the girls voices. The only problem with this is it lasts quite long and some may find the chorus repeats its self a bit too much. Written by Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Rich Harrison, Sean Garrett, Dwayne Carter and Clifford Harris and produced by Rich Harrison and Beyonce Knowles.
3.Cater 2 u- Now after some upbeat tunes, the album seems to slow down and use the girls vocal talent more wisely. Starting off with some 'crackly' high pitched piano/keyboard, Beyonce starts this song off with a verse and from then on they take turns to sing a verse, Kelly then Michelle singing the bridge. On this single, the girls voices complement each other perfectly and the backing vocals are really powerful. Written by Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Rodney Jenkins, Ric Rude and Robert Waller and produced by Rodney Jenkins, Ric Rude and Beyonce Knowles.
4. T-shirt- This song starts of with Beyonce speaking the lyrics. With a constant 'ooh' going on in the background this song makes the perfect slow romantic track. Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Andre Harris, Vidal Davis, Sean Garrett and Angela Beyince are part of the writing team on this track and it is produced by Andre Harris, Vidal Davis and Beyonce Knowles.
5. Is She The Reason- This track is probably one that some women could relate to. Once again these three have such similar voices that they complement each other so well. The lyrics are powerful but get a message across which leaves the listener satisfied. It also includes a pre-chorus sung by Kelly something that only appears in two songs. Written by Beyonce Knowles, Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland, Sean Garrett, Patrick Douthit, Victor Carstarphen, Gene McFadden and John Whitehead. It is produced by 9th wonder and Beyonce Knowles. An interesting fact that is included in the booklet is that the song also includes extracts from 'I don't know no one else to turn to' as recorded by Melba Moore.
6. Girl- This is one of my personal favourites on the album and you can tell that the lyrics reflect the girls own friendship. A song about how true friends last forever and that in some cases your friends can see something that you might not be able to. The song is sung with strength and feeling all the way through and the lyrics have been written really well. This song has already been released and was in the charts for a long time. There is also a sample from 'Oceans of thoughts and dreams' as performed by The Dramatics (1977). Written by Beyonce Knowles, Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland, Sean Garrett, Patrick Douthit, Angela Beyince, Don Davis and Eddie Robinson. Produced by 9th wonder and Beyonce Knowles.
7. Bad Habit- This is my favourite song on the album and the lyrics express what it's like to finally give up on something that you've been fighting for for a long time, it's about finally moving on and breaking a 'bad habit'. The voices are perfectly in tune and once again are strong and powerful. This song is the latest from the album to be released as a single so far. Written by Kelly Rowland, Bryan Michael Cox, Kendrick Dean and Solange Knowles(Beyonces Sister). It is produced by Bryan Michael Cox and Kendrick Dean.
8. If - The backing vocals are impeccable on this track and are perfectly in tune and in time. Once again the track is split in to seperate verses and every few lines are broken up by a change of person singing. Also added is a spoken verse, explaining what its like to just sit and wait for something until you're fed up of waiting and realising what you've been missing, then the chorus fades out. Written by Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Dana Stinson, Big Drawers, Charles Jackson and Marvin Yancy. Produced by Rockwilder for F-5 productions and Beyonce Knowles.
9. Free - Starting the song with Beyonce, this track is powerful and as the title states is about being free. This track has a good beat and a nice tune to complement it. This time its Kelly singing the bridge and it makes a nice change. Written by Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Dana Stinson, Big Drawers, Larry Mizell, James Carter and Fonce Mizell. Produced by Rockwilder for F-5 productions and Beyonce Knowles.
10. Through with love - This song is how, after losing love, about finding love in God and how the only person who wouldn't judge the girls would be God.This song could be quite preaching but it has been mixed so that it would appeal to even the less godly fans out there. There is still a RnB feel to this but towards the end, a gospel choir joins and makes the song feel more powerful. Written by Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Mario Winans, Sean Garrett. Produced by Mario Winans and Beyonce Knowles.
11. Love - This song really finishes the story that we have gone through on this album, with finding a new love and meeting someone else. This is more of a slow song but good all the same! Written by Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Erron Williams, Angela Beyince. Produced by Erron Williams and Beyonce Knowles.
12. Game over (bonus track) And now we have come to the end of the album it pretty follows up from track 11 and just saying how the new love that has been found is the 'one'. It's another slow song that would probably suit romantic dinners or dates but it is a good round up of the album. This track being the bonus isn't actually in the booklet so it doesn' t have who it was written by!
Cover and inside booklet - The cover is simple but effective with just Destiny's child posing on the front. The designers have pretty much blacked out the background and just left the girls faces. Inside the booklet are photo's of the girls seperately and then a small poster at the back. All the words are included except for the last bonus track and have the details of the song (writers, producers, etc.) Also included are the girls thank-you's and in small print in the back (same page as the thank-you's) is a bonus feature where if you were to insert the CD in to your computer disk drive and connect to the internet then you can see exclusive videos and more!
All in all this is a great album, powerful and meaning and showing how much Destiny's Child have matured and grown over the past four years. There will be songs that you can relate to and some you can't but in the end theres something for everyone. Personally one of my favourite albums and i would definately recommend it to fans and newcomers who aren't familiar with the girls work.
I bought this CD back in 2004 for one reason only; I liked the track 'Soldier'. Oh okay, a band that produced videos with Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and Beyonce prancing around, well, what can I say. This album was the fourth studio album and was produced in 2004.
On to the serious business of the music.
~~~Tracks~~~
1. Lose My Breath
Quite a lively number very catchy in a club R&B style. Great use of what I think are trumpets. What I do ... ...being overtly sexual in an industry that is male dominated. Not a great song but a decent lively opener 6/10.
2. Soldier (featuring T.I. & Lil Wayne)
The reason I bought the album, great mix of R&B and rap/hip hop, great bass line and use of drums. Again an overtly predatory sexual song. It is very raw and tough and full of innuendo "Known to carry big things if you know what I mean". The vocal 'turns' that the women have really works well. T.I. ...
Advantages: Very soulful, more mature Disadvantages: All mid tempo tracks
The first time I listened to this album I was left feeling unimpressed and a little bored. After the first two songs, the stomping first single "lose my breath" and "soldier" the album drifts into collection of mid-tempo tracks most of which sounded the same to me.
However, on the second and third listens I found the change in style from the previous albums quite refreshing and many of the songs had a real old style, soulful feel that I loved.
... ...outstanding, with much more from Michelle and Kelly this time. However I do feel that this could have easily been a solo album from Beyonce because when Kelly and Michelle are singing, I can't help thinking Beyonce would have sounded better.
Here are my opinions of all the tracks:
1. Lose my breath 10/10- great first single, perhaps my favourite DC single ever. However I think this single is misleading and does not at all represent the album. 2. ...
This is now three remaining members, Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams 6th album. Fans have had a one or two year delay of the 6th album release, however we definantly had any absence of their songs, as all three members have all achieved their own successfull solo career, more so Beyonce, with a number of top ten hits and a chart topping album (Dangeriously In Love). This reunion album has already claimed one of the best R&B album. ... ...2001 (yep hasnt the time flown by!), the girls have made a comeback with the album named "Destiny fulfilled", here the album is alot more maturer and abit more reflective. The writting to the vocals have all so much improved, as the grown-up vocals and experiences are all reflected in this album.
The Tracks:
"Lose my Breath" has to be the best up-tempo track on the album, and probably be the most sucessfull single released from this album even ...
Advantages: Some fresh tracks some old skool style newies Disadvantages: Only for REAL fans (download and save ya pennies otherwise)
...means a fair showcase of Destiny Fulfilled. I was SOOOOO hopeful this would be another Survivor or Writings On The Wall and it just wasnt, but its not all bad.
Normally I would review an album track buy track but rather than right dull and uninspiring too many times ie Cater 2U, T-Shirt, Bad Habit and Love, I'll just choose the top tunes. Ones I actually like and ones that do the job!
Lose My Breath - excellent start this follows classics like ... ...bit and isn't awe-inspiring like Destiny can be!
Girl - This is very like alot of the album, quite bland. But this has something, I cant say what exactly, but it has potential. The lyrics are good and the vocals are excellent. I think this is a major grower (save me reviewing 'If' and 'Is She The Reason'... same applies except its more ballad like) and could see itself in the charts.
Free - another mellow laid back slice of R & B. I like this as ...
Additional notes
Album Reviews: Mojo (p.97) - 3 stars out of 5 - "Destiny pulls it off, mainly through muscular production and stunning vocal interplay. This is the sound of a girl group growing up." Vibe (p.81) - 4 discs out of 5 - "[E]motionally inspiring....DESTINY FULFILLED offers divine satisfaction."
Album Notes: Destiny's Child has been no stranger to controversy, and with three years of silence and three solo records following 2001's SURVIVOR, one might infer that the act was on the fast track to dissolution. The group's fourth record, 2004's DESTINY FULFILLED, put to rest any such ideas, as the now-solid three-woman lineup of Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams offers up another helping of winsome R&B songs marked by a pop sensibility. DESTINY FULFILLED opens on an energetic, adventurous note with the speedy drums and vocal acrobatics of "Lose My Breath," followed closely by "Soldier," a hip-hop ode to thugs, featuring T.I. & Lil Wayne. From there, the trio shifts gears to a more traditional R&B album with a slew of ballads, many in an old-school 1970s vein. Destiny's Child finishes the record on a high note with the balanced near-suite of "Through with Love" and "Love," the former quirkily captivating, the latter sweet and breathy. Knowles has been hitting the notes since she was a kid, and after four records with Destiny's Child and one on her own, she can inject sultry beauty into a song in her sleep. Although Knowles gets a bit more of the spotlight, Rowland and Williams also shine on DESTINY FULFILLED, a gratifying pop-laden R&B record.
