...He isn't called "The Baron" for nothing. Over the past years Dave Clarke has established himself as one of the very best DJs in the world. His ventures into production include this album "Devil's Advocate" and many of his now legendary remixes. He has done remixes for just about everyone from Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, Leftfield to Laurent Garnier. Dave Clarke is the man behind "Kernkraft400", a huge dancefloor hit that got very cheesy; but he was smart to go under the name of "Zombie Nation" for that production.
Dave's roots lay way back in the 1980s. He started off DJing in hiphop where he became a master of the decks and mixer; he still uses a hiphop style of mixing when DJing today. His use of the crossfader and scratching prove that. Then he moved on from that and started to DJ in Acid House and later Hardcore in the late...

Advantages: entertaining and a good mixture of styles Disadvantages: too much bragging. so so production
...Although this feels like a debut, this is actually his 4th (but this time sucessful) attempt at success. As he says in the title track 'devil without a cause - i'm going platinum!'.

The main focus points on the album are opener badwitdaba, which has a very edgy sound, good to start off the album. Cowboy follows, and was a succesful song, starting off with a folk tinged hip hop sound and ending with a more abbrasive metal sound.

I wondered at first if he was taking the piss, but 'only god knows why' is quite an emotional number where he ponders whether his quality of life has improved through fame. But it surprises me why he uses a vocoder on the song! He's not trying to do...

Advantages: V much like Deja Etendu, sounds brilliant live! Not like other American music Disadvantages: Quite Varied throughout, some tracks let it down

Track 1 - Sowing Seeds (Yeah) - not the strongest track on the album, in fact I consider it quite poor in terms of initial album tracks. It demonstrates perfect the type of vocals Brand New provide, and also demonstrates how they often combine quite vocals and simple guitar followed by powerful riffs and shouts, then concluded by a more 'usual' level of volume, guitars, drums and vocals. This song demonstrates the ranges over which vocallist Jessy Lacey's voice can work, which quiet whispering speech ranging to the harrow heartfelt shouts he can produce, as well as his fantastic singing abilities.
Track 2 - Millstone - possibly one of the most catchy choruses on the album. Fantastic guitar riffs throughout...
