Cited by punks as one of the few artists they respected, Bowie released this tribute to George Orwell's "1984" in 1974, soon after jettisoning his alter-ego Ziggy Stardust. Opening with "Future Legend", the LP is set in some undefined future world peopled with freaks and mutants: Diamond Dogs, Halloween Jack, Big Brother, etc. In this post-nuclear wasteland Bowie lays down the tracks for a future world: the majesty of "Sweet Thing", the paranoid love song "Rock 'N' Roll With Me", and the hit single "Rebel Rebel" all go to prove that this was Bowie at his peak - remember him this way.
