The year was 1991. Wasn't a great year for music, was it? Well, there was one decent album that year, and buy purchasing Diamonds and Pearls, you will own that unique CD.
The singles from this album are outstanding: Thunder, Gett Off, Cream and the title track Diamonds and Pearls. Despite the fact that they are nearly 14 years old, they don't sound terribly dated, and all four of them are amongst Prince's greatest songs.
The other album tracks are pretty good, but a few of them will take some perserverance. I assure you it's worth it. There are those cheesy offerings so synonimous with the late eighties / early nineties, but even they will start to grow on you. Specifically, I'm referring to the tracks "Daddy Pop" and "Jughead".
There are some pleasing ballads and upbeat tunes comprising the rest of the album, and overall I believe this CD to be well worth the money.
The New Power Generation era in Prince's discography is a bit hit-and-miss, but Diamonds and Pearls is definately one of the hits.
