I first got this album for Christmas. I had only heard 'you don't know my name' at that point. I was pleasantly suprised to find that I enjoyed almost every track on the album, my immediate favourites being 'when you really love someone' and the fantastic (but so over-played) 'if i ain't got you'.
The tracks on the version are as follows:
*harlem's nocture - I think I made a concious descion to skip this track, as after hearing it once, I didn't particualy like it.
karma - a good solid song
heartburn - it's nice to have a variety of tempo on an album, and this adds a upbeat feel.
£if i was your woman - I enjoyed this song, and had it on replay for quite a while
£you don't know my name - still just as brilliant as ever - but I'm still in two minds about the talky bit!
£if i aint got you - the lyrics to this song are lovely, and I listened to this song for hours. It's a real shame that radio stations had to do the same!
%£diary - this is a really good track. It features the artist Tony! Toni! Tone!, and is calming and moving at the same time. It shows what a strong voice Alicia has.
* dragon days - I liked the music for this song, but I wasn't too keen on the lyrics - I don't know, I think it was just personal preference.
wake up - I don't remember this song very well, and as it wont play on my Mac, I can't remind my self - sorry
so simple - this was okay. Just okay. Not brilliant, and not cr*p.
!*%£when you really love someone - this is a fantastic all-round song it's vocally, musically and lyrically beautiful. It really shows you that the girl can sing.
!%%%&£feeling u, feeling me - Aww, I love this, but it's way too short.
slow down - nice song!
!&£samsonite man - a good, original track, with nice lyrics
* nobody not really - mmm, I'm not sure whether I like this one or not yet, but I don't think it should have been put as the last track on the album
KEY:
songs marked with '*', in my opinion, had some weak or predictable lyrics.
those with '%' were songs that I found really nice to listen to with my head resting on our car window, and watching the Somerset countryside roll by.
Over-all, I would say that this album is woth adding to your collection. It's letdowns, though few were that it wouldn't play on my Mackintosh, and neither would the Bonus! DVD that it came with. The other downpoint was that it is one of many following the trend to not include song lyrics. This is dissapointing, as in my opinion, this is one of the reasons to buy a album.
