I first heard the Backyard Babies on a Scandinavian Rock compliation, I was impressed as the songs I heard were dirty and mean spirited rock and roll, the way it should be. So a few years ago when I saw this album in a record shop of all things I thought to myself you can't miss this opportunity to extend your scandinavian rock and roll collection, it was a must that I got this record.
However when I put it on I was initally disapointed as it was not anything like what I heard on the compilation albums it was more rock than anything else, so here I am again listening to it and eciding weather or not I will trade it in for something at my brother in laws second hand record store........
The first song "Smell The Magic / Bad to the Bone" stats off like Bon Jovi which does not bode well, then disapears into the worst kind of rock and roll by numbers possible soundinglike some 80's hair metal band I am not impressed. Things do not improve by the second track "Strange Kind Of Attitude" again sounding like the worst of punk and 80's hair metal combined and totally lacking in inspiration, I do not mind cliches but this has no heart or soul in it. There is no real attitude here the playing is superb but uninspired could this be the band or the production I don't knowall I know is that ther is nothing so far in the songs that make me wanna go yeah give me some more bring it on if you are tough enough.
Sadly the slowsludge of "Diesel and Power" dosenothing to raise it to anything spectacular instead they sound like a substandard Guns and Roses here, and I hate Guns and Roses!!!!! This substandard Guns and Roses theme is continues on "Love" and lets face it I have had enough I have absolutley no intentionoflistening to the next 8 songs on the album. Lines like "Sticks and Stones wont break my bones " are hardly inspired at all..................
In the 6 or 7 years I have owned this album I have never listened to it in it entirety and I can count the number of times I have put it in my CD player on one hand this is the last time. I wouldonly recomend that you buy this if you see it in my brother in law's second hand record shop.
