Dreamtale are a Finnish Power Metal band, similarly to Sonata Arctica , that formed in 1996. Difference is their latest album, released in 2005. I never thought I would come across another band that would impress me as much as Sonata Arctica, but I was dead wrong, Dreamtale are easily on par. The album consists of twelve tracks, and the style is really not different to the style of former albums, but hey if it\'s not broken don\'t fix it. Strangely Dreamtale seems to be quite unheard of which is a shame, for they are worthy of a much bigger fan base.
The album:
Track 1: Lost souls, heavier track, with great use of guitaring, and drumming. Lush vocals, nice upbeat track
Track 2: Wings of Icaros, starts of with the use of an Harpsichord, nice touch. quite catchy melody, again quite uptempo
Track 3: New Life, Great lyrics, very anthemic, a nice track to sing along to.
Track 4: Lucid Rimes, This is my most favourite track by Dreamtale. This track is power metal with touches of classical music. The song goes up and down varying between powerful to slow and balladish. Great thought provoking lyrics. This track blows my mind and the vocals are lush.
Track 5: Mirror, A nice love ballad, the song sounds strong yet a undertone of sadness that relates perfectly to the lyrics. Real peachy passionate note holding on the vocals. very poignant
Track 6: World's Child, Sounds almost warrior like, the sort of song sung about warriors and heroes. Very catchy and powerful. A tad similar to Dragonforce.
Track 7: Sail Away, Not so keen on this track, It is a kind of weak cutesy ballad that really fails to completely inspire me. It is much like a minstrel on the pier singing goodbye to the sailors.
Track 8: Fly, Another track that does not quite do it for me. This is more like progressive metal, a bit sort of angry, and rebellious.
Track 9: Secret Door, awesome, very upbeat with some nice keyboard, reminds me a little of Europe in the eighties but better and slightly more powerful. love this stuff, really melodic metal, very cushty
Track 10: We Are One, Starts with nice female chanting like the sort of thing you would get in a Conan type movie. When i listen to this track it makes me think of ancient warriors and battles. Some excellent guitar breaks. Real head going track.
Track 11: Green Fields, Very minstrel type song, you can almost envisage him under a tree in the woods. Very pleasant ballad that half way thorugh picks up it's tempo a touch, briefly!
Track 12: Powerplay {Bonus Track} Very heavy moody track, quite intense but still damn good, quirky use of keyboard in some parts. Dare I say this, this track sounds kind of Eurovision song contest, EEK, i said it, but it is kinda good.
A very strong well put together album that is by one of the finest power metal bands out there.
Advantages: Some great rock/metal songs, it's a bit different Disadvantages: Some bad songs, vocals aren't great
Dreamtale are one of the most recent additions to Finland's Powermetal family, joining already legendary bands like Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius in achieving a hit single in the Finnish charts, with Wellon reaching number nine in January 2005. Wellon was the first single released from Dreamtale's third album 'Difference', which was released to a great reception in March 2005. The band hasn't always been this popular though - indeed, after the release of their solid yet underappreciated debut album 'Beyond Reality', Dreamtale were barely recognised.
Now, for the uninitiated, Powermetal is a genre of metal very similar in style to the Heavy Metal propagated by bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, though with some key differences. First of all, the majority of the vocal work on a Powermetal record will be high-pitched singing ...
