I got this album as a christmas present last year, so im not sure how easy it is to get hold of. I do know that large music shops like Virgin or HMV have it in stock and it is also easily available online. Prices do range depending on where you go, the cheapest I've seen it for is £7.00 the most expensive was £12.00.

This Album is from the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing, which starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze in the lead roles. The film is based on a holiday camp in 1963, where a young girl Frances (Baby) (played by Grey) falls in love with the camps leading dance teacher Johnny (played by Swayze). This is where a lot of the inspiration for the soundtrack has come from; the soundtrack brings back memories from the film. Most of the songs on this album will definitely make you want to get up and Dirty Dance!

It is a one disk album, containing 12 tracks:

Bill Medley + Jennifer Warnes - (I've Had) the Time of My Life (04.50 Mins)
The main song from the film, everyone should know what this song is like! It starts with a slow romantic introduction and then comes in the catchy guitar rift. The bridge and chorus are timeless, everyone can sing along - even those who haven't seen the film. A good upbeat tempo that's easy to dance to. When I hear this song I always think of "no-body puts Baby in the corner" and the fantastic finally dance at the end of the film, including that lift!

Ronnettes - Be My Baby (02.39 Mins)
I think what makes this song so great is that it was originally released in 1977, and so you really get a feel for the classic era. An up-beat tempo, you can't help but shake your hips the second you hear the drum beat! A very sexy song with a sultry twist. A great song for couples to dance to as although it isn't a 'slow dance' song it is very romantic.

Patrick Swayze - She's Like the Wind (03.52 Mins)
A very slow meaningful love song. When I hear it all I can think of is the part in the film when Johnny and Baby are caught out and he has to leave her. It's mainly Patrick singing over a piano rift with a gentle bass and drum beat in the back ground. What makes this such a sexy song is the Saxophone (I think!) which links the chorus and verses together. This is most definitely a song for the lovers! A great one to play at the end of a night for the couples to dance to.

Eric Carmen - Hungry Eyes (04.08 Mins)
Starting off with a gentle drum beat leading on to piano. Eric has a very sexy husky voice, making this song irresistible. It's romantic but has a good tempo which makes it another song that is easy to dance to. Think of the part in the movie where Johnny is teaching Baby to listen to the beat in the song as a heart beat, and move on it, you can shake your hips and give it all you got! Its what I call a happy song, you can listen to it, sing along and it's always guaranteed to put a smile on your face!

Maurice Williams + the Zodiacs - Stay (01.35 Min)
A very blues inspired track, extremely sexy! It has Maurice singing over a very strong bass, with drums and a piano. You hear this song and you just think of the classic 60's. This is the kind of song you get as wind down at the end of an evening. Another one for the couples to dance to! The only downside is it's a very short track.

Merry Clayton - Yes (03.17 Mins)
Very upbeat tempo starts off with a drum and electric guitar rift that immediately gets your hips shaking. It's a song about lovers but its one that gets you moving. It's actually from a part of the film where Babys sister goes to her holiday romance to make love for the first time and finds him in bed with someone else! But it won't fail to get you dancing and smiling! This is most definitely the most upbeat track on the album, the kind of song you listen to as you get ready to go on a night out - its one that will get you in the mood.

Blow Monkeys - You Don't Own Me (3.01 Mins)
This track has a very slow sexy introduction, just a Saxophone and gentle drums. The lead singer 'Dr. Robert' has a very sexy deep throaty singing voice. The verses are very slow and soulful leading into a catchy chorus. This is another track for the lovers, best played at the end of a night as a wind down track.

Bruce Channel - Hey! Baby (02.23 Mins)
I hate the DJ Otzi version! This original (I think) version is so how the song is meant to be! It's slow, sexy and soulful. Bruce has a very distinct voice, which is accompanied by a mouth organ, piano and catchy drums. Its more upbeat than the other wind down tracks like Stay, but it is another song for the couples, very easy to dance to, you can just sway to the rhythm.

Zappacosta - Overload (03.41 Mins)
Starts off with a bass over drums, and then comes in a saxophone. It has a great tempo that makes it a good song to listen to if your getting ready to go out but its not one that I would say is very easy to dance to. The beat is a bit slow, this is my least favorite track on the album. I did find it quite similar to a lot of other tracks released in the 80's.

Mickey & Sylvia - Love Is Strange (02.54 Mins)
This track immediately gets you grooving! It starts off with the very catchy electric guitar rift over a really good beat. Sylvia has a very distinct voice, this is a very sensual song, and although it has a good tempo it is insatiably sexy! Its one for the couples to dance to and gyrate to! When ever I hear this song I just think of seeing Baby and Johnny having some fun and watching their romance nearly being caught, you see in this scene their true feelings for each other.

Tom Johnston - Where Are You Tonight (4.00 Mins)
This song starts off with Tom, who had a very deep meaningful voice singing with only clapping and backing singers to back him, then comes in drums, bass and occasionally a saxophone. Its another classic 80's song, but another one that's not easy to dance to. It is a great song for getting you in the mood though, I would recommend it for when your getting ready to go out.

Five Satins - In the Still of the Night (03.05 Mins)
Beginning with a bass and gentle drums, with soulful blues singing. Its another very very sexy, wind down song. Its very romantic, easy to dance to. Perfect for the end of an evening, couples can get up and slow dance to it.

This sound track album has a good mix of upbeat songs that make you want to get up and dance, and also the slushy love songs that make you want to stay in for some lovin! If you loved the movie you will love this album, I didn't skip a single track! I also recommend it to those who haven't seen the film. These songs are classics and appeal to all.

I recommend this album for day to day listening and also as great background music for a dinner party.
