barmy but brilliant
Review of Back To Black - Amy Winehouse by Suze31

Advantages: brilliant from start to finish.
Disadvantages: not everybody's cup of tea

...Having loved Ms Winehouse's first album 'frank', I was wondering if this would compare. It's all gone in a more soulful direction this time and sounds both retro and original at the same time ( if that's possible.) If you are into any of the really great female vocalists ( sarah vaughan, aretha franklin ) then this album is definately worth a listen. There's not many albums that I consider brilliant from start to finish but this is certainly one of them. Love her or hate her ( she is a bit barmy but I think that adds to her charm.) I defy anybody to say that Amy Winehouse is not one of the best and most innovative vocalists of this generation.... Read review

Compilation of great female voices and songs
Review of Lady Sings The Blues - Night And Day - Various Artists by aspebbles

Advantages: Class Acts
Disadvantages: None

...This is a compilation double CD, of classic jazz/blues tracks all by women singers from the past 5 decades. Issued originally in 2002 - remember when Norah Jones was all over the radio? Well, she is track number 1, on Side 1, with her hit song 'Don't Know Why'. Apart from this, most of the artisits I recognise from their own work, or hearing them over the years and you certainly get a lot of music for your money. ~~~ Track Listings Disc: 1 1. Norah Jones - Don't Know Why 2. Dinah Washington - Mad About The Boy 3. Aretha Franklin - All Night Long 4. Peggy Lee - The Man I Love 5. Nina Simone - I Wish I Knew How It Felt To Be Free 6. Sarah Vaughan - Lover Man 7. Ella Fitzgerald - Its Only A Paper Moon 8. Julie London - Go Slow 9. Nancy Wilson - The Nearness Of You 10. Billie Holiday - Georgia on My Mind 11. Dinah Washington - Baby Won... Read review

Rip off?
Review of Heavy Heavy Hits [Remastered] - Madness by gches

Advantages: It's Madness!
Disadvantages: Rip off

...Well this album is such a rip off, it's unbelievable!!! Basically this is Divine Madness with one extra track. It even says on the cd somewhere that this is the same as Divine Madness (back cover I think). The boys are fantastic, the best band to ever walk the earth, but this is commercialism at it's worst, and numbers the fourth or fifth greatest hits album they've had out!! Of the two buy Divine Madness not this one!!! Of even buy the 6 cd set of all of the albums, including pc videos of 20 songs.... Read review
