Say the name DjangoReinhardt to someone and you'll most likely get one of two responses: either they'll smile at you and say "You've heard of him? Excellent!" or they'll simply stare blankly at you as if you're speaking a foreign language.
For anyone who doesn't know, DjangoReinhardt was a jazz guitarist popular through particularly the 1930's. Born to a family of Gypsies, he spent his early life travelling and was playing guitar from a very early age.
The most impressive thing about Django's guitar playing is he actually lost the use of two of his fingers on his left hand (the hand most guitarists' uses to fret with, form chords, etc.) during a fire at the age of eighteen. With such a disability, many guitarists would have called it a day, but not so Django. Instead, he adapted his parts to suit his abilities and even pushed ...
simply the greatest fiddle (violin) player the planet has ever seen. Grappelli was born in Paris, and started his career as a silent film pianist. He attended the Conservatoire de Paris between 1924 and 1928. A distant cousin of mine, who encouraged me to fiddle in my youth, has preformed with Grappelli.
These two musicians with startlingly different backgrounds formed the "Quintette du HotClub de France", who perform all of the songs on this collection with the exceptions of Nocturne which is Django and Stéphane alone, and Improvisation which is just Django. The "Quintette du HotClub de France" comprised of Reinhart and Grapelli with Reinhardt's brother Joseph and Roger Chaput on guitar, and Louis Vola on bass.
This collection of songs was preformed between 1935 and 1940 and showcases the unique sound of the quitnette. They made up ...

Now, get down to it!
I'd like to write my experience buying at Djangos.com.
I first came across this web by chance surfing Google. I took a long look at it and found that right in front my eyes was HEAVEN itself
Those all records I wanted to buy but I couldn't do here in Spain were on the computer screen like answering to all my long-time prayers.
From that very day I've been purchasing most of my CDs at Djangos.
Huge amounts of variety is what the shopper encounters there.
But the thing that brought my attention the most was the way they treat their customers. Always kind and helpful if you have a problem with their service. And they're serious guys too ...

Django on electric guitar! Not the beginners' Django, perhaps, but if you're already familiar with his prewar Hot Club work on acoustic guitar with violinist Stephane Grapelli, this set provides a fascinating look at where Reinhardt was heading musically towards the end of his life (he died in 1953). At times the old-world cafe-jazz sensibilities show through, and Django's classically inspired trills and arpeggios have lost none of their charm. But teamed for the most part with either clarinetist Hubert Rostaing or alto saxophonist Hubert Fol, Django tends toward the modern, as evidenced by quotes from Dizzy Gillespie's "Salt Peanuts" in Reinhardt's own "Babik (Bi-Bop)," a simultaneous tribute to the guitarist's young son and the new music from the States. At times the band riffs with a relaxed swing-era groove, at others they charge ahead, bopping in unison with a hi-hat driven fervor. Reinhardt's soloing occasionally reveals a more than passing familiarity with Charlie Christian, and his original compositions (more than half the repertoire on this disc) could have found a home on any of a number of mid-'50s Blue Note or Prestige LPs.
