Doctor Dolittle is a World premiere London Cast recording of songs from the musical. If you have seen the film or the musical you will know that the story is about a man that can communicate with animals. At no point is the play supposed to be serious, it is purely fantastical, funny and very entertaining. I haven't seen the musical myself but the film was a favorite for my childhood years.

This CD has all the songs from Doctor Dolittle, my favorites been 'my friend the doctor', 'talk to the animals' and 'doctor Doolittle', because they are feel good songs, make you smile and forget the stresses of everyday life.

To be honest I'm a great fan of rock music, and it is unconventional for me to purchase a musical CD, but its good to have a diverse range in a musical collection, and for the 'musical' category, I would recommend this because the tunes are very catchy, joyful and children will love it!

The cast of this production are fabulous, with a young lad excelling himself in the song 'doctor Dolittle', and the choral section giving superb backing to the orchestra which are top notch!

The CD is a recording done in the studio and not from a live performance, but that doesn't matter you can still imagine it been performed in the bright lights at the West End. It was recorded and mixed at the Pierce room, London in September 1998, and the quality of the recording is good with a delicate balance between vocals, mass choral sections and instrumental backing.

'Beautiful things' is a very moving track, and is a timeless lovey dovey song like 'a whole new world' from Aladdin. 'I've never seen anything like it', is a very entertaining song which is about some circus geezer who is astonished when the Doctor presents him with a 'push me pull you', an animal with two heads at opposite ends of a body which pull in opposite ends. It is a lovely musical/film and this CD does not disappoint anyone who is a fan of musical classics.

It also doesn't disappoint anyone who likes a bit of cheese; but in this 21st century society its important everyone has a bit of cheese in their lives every now and again, so we don't take life too seriously.

There are 4 reprises in the album, which are basically re-visits of songs near the beginning of the album, which is annoying, but they get more grander towards the end and you have to remember that the songs are directly from the stage production, so its more than acceptable!

The songs are in the order of which they occur in the musical, so the album tells a story which if you have seen the film or stage production would make much more sense. In my opinion this is one of the greatest musicals of all time, and something all children should get the opportunity to appreciate, if they can't see the play, the CD is the next best thing!

The idea of talking to animals is fascinating, and will make any child wonder at the possibilities, and this album is great for a bit of fun, with a colorful and typically musical like cover with doctor Dolittle and some of his animals.
