With once again Murray Gold scoring this music is it any wonder that this would be a success? He always puts his passion and love into his music and this album is no difference.
With music from nearly every episode of Series 3 of Doctor Who this is like re-living each episode but in music form. Each and every song represents the Doctor Who genre like a heart represents love!
Just as the first Murray Gold Doctor who soundtrack it starts with the same wondering music of series 1 when we are looking down from space onto earth and then focus into see rose for the first time but we go into the series trailer music which has become to represent the series. Every time I hear "All the Strange, Strange Creatures", the title of the music I was talking about, I just want to run like the Doctor does J!
Then we hear Martha's Theme, which appears in over 6 episodes when the scene is about Martha. Just like Rose and the Doctor have their theme Martha has to have one and its one of the best out of the 3! The sound of the calming voice matched with piano in the background just divines Martha to the tee. And the musical masterpiece doesn't stop there. There's just pieces as "Boe" which plays just as the Face of Boe dies at the end Gridlock. At that moment I think the music contributed to making that a very emotional moment on the series. As the Daleks return "Evolution of the Daleks" shows the power of the Daleks when Dalek sec evolves into a "Human Dalek". Murray uses the deep booming voices of the Welsh choir once again for the Daleks to show how powerful and dangerous the Daleks really are.
There are so many other greats like "This is Galifrey: Our Childhood, Our Home" which is one of my favourites as it plays when the Doctor remembers out his past and his long gone home planet Galifrey at its prime of deep red grass and burnt orange sky.
Also there's 3 vocal songs included, there's Abide with Me which is a Christian hymn which is sung in the middle and end of gridlock as the people of New New York's song meaning to stick together and get though this. Plus there's "My Angel put the Devil in Me" sung by Yamit Mamo which is a 1920's musical style song which should have been released as a single because it could have topped the charts I believe. And that also proves the Murray Gold can also write lyrics as well as soundtracks! Finally the last vocal is "The Stowaway" again performed by Yamit, which was played on the 2007 Christmas special "Voyage of the Damned".
So to conclude this album well deserves a listen to and you don't need to have watched all of the episodes you will truly appreciate it either way!
