Advantages: A great jazz collection Disadvantages: Stan is the only soloist
...I don't know if this album received that much attention when it came out but I've been listening to it lately a lot. I'm a saxophone player, and Getz is not even usually one of my favorites. I always thought his sound was too lightweight or something. The only albums I liked were the early Bossa Nova ones, but not any more. He plays so soulfully on this album, it's like he's literally crying, wailing, and his sound is so beautiful and big and perfect intonation--all the more amazing since he had terminal cancer at the time of the recording. You would never know it. This is a very arranged album with lots of horns and synthesized instruments and percussion and lots of different styles and grooves, but don't let that discourage you because it's very intimate and Stan is the only soloist, blowing all the way through. Advantages: A great music CD for blues enthusiasts and indie rock alike. Disadvantages: None
...This ten song CD album is the first offering by Devils River
who are a trio from Southport, UK.
Described as a power trio this band have a unique sound
but it is clearly infused with influences from many of the
blues greats such as Hendrix, Leadbelly, and SRV.
There is a rough blues edge to some well crafted songs but
the best thing about this CD is the energy and soul, you can feel
the music as you listen, this isn't just another bland pop offering nor a manufactured soulless blues CD as many pretenders
out there produce. The mini booklet that folds out has some great pics in a collage of the band and various bits and bobs,
something to look at while listening.
Well worth the money and I can't help but feel that this band are going to go on to bigger and better things in the future, definitely ones to watch for....

Advantages: Great in car tune. Disadvantages: Wears thin after a while
...It was no easy work matching up to the standards that De La Soul's debut album '3ft High And Rising' set for all the crew's preceding efforts and for a while it seemed that it wasn't to be. This latest single is, gladly, a return to form for the former daisy-agers seeing them at their funkiest for a while. The days of saying 'No Go' having long since passed, De La now find themselves recruiting the unique vocal talents of New Jersey's weed-smoking microphone terrorist, Redman. A wise move, as Redman's instantly recognisable style gives De La's low-key mic skills, once perfectly suited to their gently upbeat productions, the contrast needed to fit into the contemporary , neck-snappin' production style. Add a sing-along chorus to seal the trio's triumphant return....
