Advantages: None Disadvantages: It's very very poor
I so wanted to love this album, as it sounded like it could be a classic. 2 musical legends, geniuses in their own right, one from the jazz field, trumpeter WyntonMarsalis, and one from the country scene, Wille Nelson. This had the makings of something great, or so I thought!
Right away the album title grabbed my attention and had me thinking this was going to be a bluesy affair. Well, there's a hint of it on the album, but only a hint. This is possbly the most insipid collection of so called 'blues' you'll ever have the displeasure of hearing. To be fair Marsalis plays well on here (the only redeeming factor about the project), but Nelson sounds like he's going through the motions and can't wait to get out of the studio. There's a serious lack of what all good blues music has - and that's 'feel', or 'soul', call it what you will ...
Advantages: Fantastic display of Jazz composition Disadvantages: Jazz isn't for everyone
CharlesMingus - In a Soulful Mood.
CharlesMingus, also known as "The angry man of Jazz", is a fantastic jazz bassist and composer. He was born in 1922 in Arizona and picked up the Double Bass in high school. He had previously learnt to play the cello and trombone so many of his cello skills were converted to double bass. In his early years he was composing incredibly advanced jazz pieces, some of which to be recorded later on.
Over his career Mingus recorded in excess of 70 records with various musicians passing through his often unconventional bands. He tended to focus on the personality, as well as the ability, of a musician to see how he would fit into the band. He ran a jazz workshop that included around 8 members and shaped musicians into unconventional ways that explored their improvisational talents. Pieces ...
Advantages: some insight into the music world Disadvantages: dull, unimaginative, boring...

***THE CONTENT***
This book says it contains the truth about the stars, but Simon is nice about everyone. At one point he says, 'I don't mean to be rude but Michael Jackson is a spoiled brat'. Shock, horror? No, its been said before and what Simon says is neither rude nor original. And the fact that he praises Michael Jackson as the most talented performer really softens the already soft blow.
Here is a list of the other sections that begin, 'I don't mean to be rude but...'
I am slightly cynical about marriage (he says he will marry the 'right girl', so he's cynical how? And being slightly cynical is not rude)
Punk Music Sucks (he then says some nice stuff about the true influences , and isn't at all rude just matter of fact)
Why Can't Your Ex-Girlfriend Be Your Best Friend (and this is rude because? He sings the praises ...

Album Notes
Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra: Ted Nash (flute, soprano saxophone); Victor Goines (clarinet, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone); Joe Temperley (bass clarinet, baritone saxophone); Wess "Warmdaddy" Anderson (alto saxophone); Walter Blanding (tenor saxophone); Lew Soloff, Marcus Printup, Ryan Kisor, Wynton Marsalis (trumpet); Andre Hayward (trombone, tuba); Ron Westray, Vincent Gardner (trombone); Eric Lewis (piano); Carlos Henriquez (bass instrument); Herlin Riley (drums). Personnel: Delfeayo Marsalis, Patrick Smith. Recording information: Right Track Studios, New York, New York (2003). This tight, professional set of some of Charles Mingus's lesser-known compositions contains creditable versions of the bassist and bandleader's adventurous tone poem, "The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady," the sophisticated big band swing of "Dizzy Moods," and the frenetic "Meditation on Integration." While the rough edginess of the Mingus band is perhaps impossible to duplicate, the Wynton Marsalis-headed New York City jazz institution's impeccable reproductions capture the essence of these compositions' bold, innovative spirit.
