Advantages: A good laugh Disadvantages: Can get old, quickly
...Weird Al Yankovic's weird twist on songs can make even your grandma giggle, but if you listen to the album more than three times you will start to get a bit bored. Don't get me wrong, it is still fun to see other peoples reaction to the songs, but is really an album that you can only listen to a couple of times, leave it till you don't remember it and then listen to it again. You would be better off getting the best of weird alls videos which are a lot more fun and do not get old. This album does what it says on the tin, makes you laugh, makes you sing along, possibly even makes you get dreadlocks, but it just doesn't beat a classic album such as dark side of the moon (pink floyd) or crime of the century (supertramp)

11) Blown Away - One of Thompson's favourite Pixies songs, recorded in Hansa Studios, Berlin, where Bowie did his 'Berlin Trilogy': one of the more extravagant sessions in their career. He claims it was written having taken a couple of days off on a tour in a hotel room next door to Kim Deal (to whom he wasn't speaking at the time, and who to Thompson's extreme annoyance had decided they wanted a couple of days off the tour too) listening to Leonard Cohen's 'I'm Your Man' on repeat. Structurally very simple, nothing but verses with chugging rhythm guitar, bass and drums, what makes it one of the very best Pixies tracks are the vocals, which are deeply eerie, and Santiago's guitar, which somehow manages to be wailing and strangled at the same time.

Advantages: An almost indecent amount of variety on display Disadvantages: Not so much a "band" record
.../backing singer/secondary songwriter/"star" (and it's the latter two that probably caused the majority of the friction that made the Pixies burn so briefly) Kim Deal, and drummer/occasional vocalist David Lovering, came together in Boston in 1985. Thompson and Santiago had been suitemates at UMASS (an educational establishment he immortalised on "Trompe Le Monde"), Deal had moved to Boston from Ohio with her husband (hence her adopting the moniker of Mrs John Murphy for the first two Pixies releases, before her divorce), and Lovering had met Deal at her wedding. Attention came relatively easily for the Pixies; by 1987 they had recorded their legendary 17/18 track (there is one track of it that has never been publicly released; a cover of Christian rocker Larry Norman's "Watch What You're Doing") demo tape "The Purple Tape", which had been passed onto...
