On this, Oasis' 9th single, there are 4 tracks: Don't look back in anger, Step out, Underneath the sky, and Cum on feel the noize.
The title track starts sounding very much like 'Imagine' by John Lennon, and quickly settled into being a mid-paced guitar ballad. The verses are well-written, and fit together very well, but it's the bridge and the chorus that get you. The song launches into life, and it's amazing.
Step out was originally going to be on (What's the story) morning glory?, but was removed at the last moment. You can't see why. It is a brilliant guitary rocker. It's obviously based on "uptight" by Stevie Wonder" (he is credited as co-songwriter), but don't let that put you off!
Underneath the sky is a slower, contemplative song, with Liam in very good singing voice, and excellent lyrics.
Cum on feel the noize, originally recorded by Slade, is one of the finest cover versions you are ever likely to hear. It takes the original, adds more body, and generally cranks it up a couple of notches.
Don't look back in anger, the best single ever? I think so.
