...The waterboys - the Irish-Scottish cult band - totally brilliant, yet not what you might expect to be one of the favourites of a 13 year old punk rock fan, i.e. me. But I love them, the brilliance of lyrics that often make no sense, but often make sense in a very intelligent way, imaginitively put as such is the title of the first track, 'a girl called Johnny', and even the title of that is remarkably different from the average sector of the music market.
The track list is as follows...
Girl called Johnny
Big music
All the things she gave me
Whole of the moon
Spirit
Don'tbang the drum
Fisherman's blues
Killing my heart
Strange boat
And a bang on the ear
Old England
Man is in love
The album opens with a superb track, the continuous rhythm of a girl called Johnny, with powerful lyrics by Mike Scott...

Advantages: Rock and roll....comedic style! Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
....A" and "Fight!" - yes, these guys don't bother with complicated song titles, so I need not explain too much about what those two songs are about, but let me just give you a line from "Fight!" - "Come on, come on, lets have a fight" - as if from the pen of Shakespeare himself!
Another stand-out is "Bad Weekend", which is apparently based literally on why the band formed - to appear on Top of the Pops, and quite simple, nothing else! Hey, it's the reason why all bands form...honestly!
Also note, that as a live act, they're just as enthusiastic as on CD - exploding on stage like hyper-active jack-in-the-boxes, with Eddie Argos proclaiming at the start of every song; "Let's Go Art Brut!" - fun time rock and roll!
Of course, it's certainly not going to be appreciated by some people, particularly traditionalists, which is fair enough...
