This is an amazing album. Yep...it is. I remember
when this album exploded ontot the scene carving
the punk scene to its best in 1994 alongside 'Smash'
by 'the offspring.' And when you listen to this
album, you will know why there is so much credit
given to this album and Greenday themselves.

That immature, refreshing punk that you hear from
this album is like a breath of fresh air, as obviously
Greendays music has changed (but warning was still
a good album), and the old stuff is just like a
refreshing walk down memory lane.

The songs are so memorable on this that you will be
humming, singing, air 'guitarin/drumming the tunes
all day. The CD cover is great, really dudey cartoons
and the pictures of the people themselves, Billie
Jo, Tre and Mike, are really funny and a nice little
picture of their personalities and humour.

And this really is illustrated in their music, full
of humour, quality playing and many other aspects.

I will try to describe it as much as possible to let
you have a feel for such a good album.

---------------------------------------------

'BURNOUT' -

opens the album with a burst of adrenaline with
scratchy punk chords and mad drumming. The lyrics to
this song, really do appeal to the adolescent and
really make you feel like actually moving and doing
something...for once.

This song is teenage - orientated about speeding
through life so fast until, you burn out. Its not
about maturing, its about running out of steam. It's
great. With lyrics like,

'I'm not growing up, I'm just burning out.'

Billie Joes voice, is really cool in this giving a
great personality to the song. The drumming in it,
is quite manic and the bass and guitar work well
together. A great song, that was released on single
all those years back and you can tell.

---------------------------------------------

'HAVING A BLAST' -

this song is definetely one of my all time favourites.
There is something about this song, that really
gets me going. The great background music, with
drums building up the sound, while the guitar
supports Billie Joes vocals so well.

It is a great song with the background of a someone
having no morals or remorse about committing
suicide and bringin everyone with him. Its also
about revenge

Its sad in a way, but its a great song. But its not
a sinister song, it is still fast and furious, but
with a great melody and singing and music, which
will probably make it one of your favourite songs
as well.

---------------------------------------------

'CHUMP'-

This song, is an average song I reckon. It is all
about this superficial t*** that this guy really
hates, it also suggests that he took his girl or
something like that. It has a nice solid drum in
the background, along with three chorder guitars.

It has a great feel, this song and at the end of
the song, there is a like a dominating drum part,
which is greats and it builds up the tension and
atmosphere and then merges into the next song.................................

'LONGVIEW'-

This is the song that the previous one merges into
delicately. Although this song is one of my favourites,
a lot of people that i know feel the same, as it
one of Greendays major songs. This was released on
single when this album came out. it is a quality song.

The drums are steady during the verse with a
guitar loop that is so addictive. It then explodes
into the chorus, with the running theme throughout
the song about isolation and masturbation. Its a
really comical song, but a good one,

'Bite my lip and close my eyes,
take me away to paradise,
some say quit or ill go blind
and its just a myth.'

IThis is also a great adolescent song, which
really does relate to teenagers upwards. A great
song.

---------------------------------------------

'WELCOME TO PARADISE' -

This song was first put on Kerplunk and it is a
great song as well. It is one of those songs
that grows on you and this one did for me. The
song is in a form of a letter, stuck in a really
rough neighbourhood, but the title 'Welcome to
Paradise' is like a comical ironic theme.

However, the twist in the song about he comes to
accept it and then this probably shows how things
grows on you.

The loop after the second chorus, has this great
tune on the guitar with squeky solo parts and then
it builds up again to an explosion of the final verse.

The lyrics are great, Billie joes voice is
still mezmerizing and the music playing is still
admirable.

---------------------------------------------

'PULLING TEETH-

is a majorly funny song about a guy with a
seriously abusive girlfriend. He describes how he
is a prisoner in a house, by being beaten up by
this degranged girlfriend. Its so funny,

The music is pretty standard, but its a really
sing a long. The solo is quite normal as well,
not boring though.

---------------------------------------------

'BASKETCASE' -

I think this song, must have been one of Greendays
most key songsa. I mean everyone knws it, just
like everyone knows 'smells like teen spirit' by
Nirvana
(*i flinch a lot*)

But it is a GREAT SONG. Basically a mad song
with majorly fast, mental guitars and rums, with
a very catchy riff which is needed, with layers of
lyrics with a cool songing voice.

This song is great for playing with your friends.
Since I am a guitarist myself, I loive playing this
song with friends, as it makes you feel really good
about yourself and it makes your music, so wild and
fun.

---------------------------------------------

'SHE' -

This is one of my favourites. Its all about this
submissive girl, with no recognition. I think it
is about society acceptance as well.

'Are you locked up in a world thats been planned
out for you?
Are you feeling like a social tool without a use?'

It is another fast song, with a great singalong
chorus. It has a complimentry guitar and drums bit
on it. With a great us of the cymbal. It is so
admirable how these guys play and sing. *swoon*

---------------------------------------------

'SASSAFRAS ROOTS' -

This is a really simple but sweet song. It has
repetitive lyrics, but since Greenday never does
this, it makes the song unique and great. it is
simple but really catchy and gets you in the mood
for going out.

Its all about companionship and about the union of
two bored, lonely people. I think its really sweet.
I feel that this song is really overlooked, but I
thin it is a really sweet song.

---------------------------------------------

'WHEN I COME AROUND' -

This was another single that was released
and has often been voted for best song, in numerous
mags like Kerrang, Rocksound and stuff. But it is
a good song. It has that recognisable drum beat
at the beginning, that later becomes a iconic
drum beat, with the thick gutiar chords,
accompaning it.

Its about being fed up. But about come-up-ance
as well. A good, song with a unique beat for punk,
and Billie Joe still give s a great performance.

--------------------------------------------

'COMING CLEAN'-

this song is about lies and deception form
parents especially, which i am sure pretty much
everyone can relate to. This is what makes
Greenday so good, they had such tight lyrics,
which made people feel good, and not alon, with
lyrics and music, you feel safe with.

Short but sweet song. Adolscence and recognising
what growing up is like. Roaring guitars and
manic guitars.

---------------------------------------------

'EMENIUS SLEEPUS' -

This song is all about how you can see yourself
reflected in another person, whether it WAS or
IS you. And its about a buddy that turned for
the worst.

A really cool phrease in this song, with really
great drums in this, fast beats, with a rolling
beat.

--------------------------------------------

'IN THE END' -

this is all about being shaloo0w. Giving reference
to this girl who is just going out with this guy
to be popular and look good (whihch happens alot
I must say toe veryone out there) and about that
he won't be there when she comes running back,
crying.

I feel this is a forgettable song though. It isn't
great compared to all the other songs and doesn't
really light my fire if you know what I mean.'

--------------------------------------------

'F.O.D.'-

Well, they mention it in the song but the
title stands for F*** off and die. What I love,
is the way the beginning sounds so placid and a
slow song, but it explodes into a roaring verse
and chorus, picking up where they left off, with
a SUPER tune, which is really unique with layered
voices.

Billie Joe shines in this song as well.

--------------------------------------------

SECRET SONG -

There is a 'secret song' after this album which
is pure genius! It is really short and funny with
tre cool singing (the drummer) with a really baby
voice singing about lonelieness and masturbation.
Its so funny.

Great Op and I agree with every word of it, Green Day, along with The Offspring, are still one of the best modern Punk Rock bands out there.
