From walking amongst the dead to Nuking bridges this album, start to finish is fantastic! I heard this album was Green Day's best and now I've got it I agree. This album has some great tunes and some..... weird lyrics. With the catchy tunes 'Longview', 'Welcome to Paradise' and 'When I come around' this album is a great listen.
Each track has the amazing Tre on the drums, Billie Joe on the vocals and Mike on the guitar. All the words are by Billie Joe and the music is a join effort.
The design of the cover is really good with lots of different pictures and you see a new thing every time you look at it! The pictures inside are good too with a good pavement line at the bottom of each page with bottles, forks or shoes on the floor.
There are 14 tracks on the album including a 15th secret track called All by myself, which you will find a bit after track 14 if you fast forward it about a minute.
This is how the tracks are like this:
1: Burnout
A catchy tune with great drum and guitar solos to follow which sounds amazing while it splits the first half from the 2nd. The lyrics are quite good but weird like most of the rest of them. Similar to the other green day songs this is heavy and very 'rocky'.
The best line in this song has to be 'like a soggy dream, so close to drowning but I don't care'. This song will have you singing the words in the shower.
2: Having a blast
This one is a lot like the others with it's twisted lyrics and heavy background. The chorus tends
to drag like a broken record but this song is still catchy and very good.
The words that stick out the most are 'soon you'll be dead anyway, no-one's getting out alive, this time I've lost my mind'. Not the best lyrics you want to be singing while at a dinner with grandparents but this is still a great song.
3: Chump
A very good tune, one of my favourites. Suprising in this song is that the words actually make sense. This song like I've said before has some strange, twisted lyrics. One of my favourite is "Maybe it's just jealousy mixing up with a violent mind, a circumstance that doesnt make much sense or maybe I'm just dumb".
This song is very fast and one of the best on the album I think. The bit where the singing stops and the drums and guitar lead off isn't new to Green Day and used a lot in their songs, which makes a really effective bit of music.
4: Longview
Like I said before this is a really catchy tune and great soft drum beats which get a lot louder by the time you've turned it up! With the line "...and I smell like ****" out of nowhere!
What I really like about this song is that it leads in from the last which sounds really good. This will really have your head banging and fingers beating away. I really like the bit that says 'I locked the door to my own cell, and i lost the key'. This is one of the best Green Day songs and is going to be on their 'greatest hits' album out this year.
5: Welcome to Paradise
This is the only track I know of to be used on two albums of Green Day's so it MUST be good. This has the best middle to it I have ever heard. It starts of with a guitar playing odd notes then as the drums come in and the other instruments it turns into a tune.
This is another of Green Day's best with some really good lyrics. The bit where they try to go 'high' and hit the note of nice is a bit destressing but anyway. This is worth the album's buy!!!
6: Pulling Teeth
Personaly my favourite track on this album. This is the most catchy, beaty, best tune Green Day has done on this album. The guitar plays some amazing solos where the drums giving a great beat. The lyrics are really good and quite funny.
The picture underneath (which has NOTHING to do with the song but anyway) is quite funny with the woman punching the man while lines are coming out of his head. These tracks make the album worth everything you spend!
7: Basket Case
The most famous track off the album. All my friends and most people I know, know this track. It's really good and got Green Day very famous. This is another catchy one with the voice of Billie Joe at his best.
The lyrics don't make much sense but he is talking about him being mad! Well it doesn't say he's mad it says he's stoned but that's different. This is a really good track and another one to make this the best Green Day album.
8: She
This is one song I don't think his mike was working at the start but it seems to kick in after a bit. After the muttered lyrics and the slow beat the same punk style, heavy metal track is here.
The only words I could pick out were 'scream at me until my ear bleed'. Yum!. This still has the great Green Day effect and is cool.
9: Sassafras Roots
Suprise, Suprise another song with strange lyrics. This song is another of my favourites. Actually it's my MSN name at the moment! This song like the others is really catchy and if you like the rest you'll like this one.
10: When I come around
Another of Green Day's best that will be on the greatest hits album. This one is a lot slower than the rest and sounds a lot like one of the Offspring's songs. This one uses a lot of guitar bass and is really catchy.
11: Coming Clean
This is a bit of an Ironic title seeming that the song is about doing drugs! This is a really good song but not as good as some of the others. This is still a great song to listen to and worth getting the album for.
12: Emenius Sleepus
This is a lot like the first few songs with it's fast beat and catchy tune. The lyrics are a bit strange ( ). This is a good song and is great to listen to.
13: In the end
This is a bit different that the other. This just has a fast drum beat and a word every beat. This is a really catchy tune and the chorus is a very "sticks-in-your-head" kind of tune. This is a really good tune but is over too quickly.
14: F.O.D
With a title that means F*** off and die this song isnt for the faint hearted. This starts off really quiet and with an soft guitar beat. Then it turns into a normal "Green Day" song and goes really loud. This is a really good song despite what I have said.
15: All by Myself (Bonus Track)
All I can say about this track is........ anyway.
This album is worth the buy and is a great listen. I'm going to go now and let you decide if you want to buy this album or not. But the last thing I will say is, if you like Green Day or any punk music at all this is the album for you.
