The refrain from the most explosive alt rock single of the modern age, Debaser, first track on Doolittle. They never "made" it and are one of those bands you stumble across and fall in love like the Velvet Underground or the Fall. Coming from the same Boston rock scene as the great Thorowing Muses, Frank Black and Kim Deal [later of the Breeders] released Doolittle in 1989, effectively defining the standard that American alternative rock would be judged by in the nineties. No one screams quite so good as Frank Black ... listen to Tame, Crackity Jones and No. 13, baby for evidence. This edgy stuff is balanced by a fine pop sensibilty, with Here Comes your Man shining especially. Thrilling stuff.
