There are millions of songs in the world, but from all the rest, this one really does stand out.
Downtown, by Petula Clark is really the song to play if your feeling down and lonely, it really does make you feel better.
In chart records, it got to #1in the USA Hot 100 number-one hits, and kept that record for 2 weeks from January 23rd until February 6th 1965, being knocked off by The Righteous Brothers with You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin. In the UK chart it got to #2, and was sang in French and in France got to #6.
The song was finished 30 minutes before its first recording by a guy called Hatch in the studios mens room. Downtown was also the first song ever to be sang by a British artist to enter the Billboard Top 100. It also went on to win a Grammy Award for best rock and roll song.
The song has also appeared in many television shows and films, most popular with ABC's Lost, it has so far featured twice in the show in its third series. It was also used in the opening scenes of Jaws 2 in 1978.
This song is a real pick me up, and I recommend this to anyone.
