Dreamer, The - Eric Bogle

Advantages: Stunning performances, wonderful combination of sex, art, and politics.
Disadvantages: Some may find it a little too explicit.

...Every once in a while a film comes along that restores my faith in the art form. Months of suffering through generic blockbusters, uninspired "independent" films and various dodgy foreign films that are supposedly good because the people watching them get to feel superior to those who don't do subtitles. All of this is worthwhile for that occasional good film that makes it worth repeating the entire process for. The Dreamers is one of those films. Heading into it, I really wasn't elated at the idea of what I'd be seeing. Thanks to the flaws in the marketing, I was under the impression that I'd be seeing one, or all of the following: a) An entirely foreign language film. b) A love letter to a bunch of films that I hadn't seen. c) A tediously dull film where nothing really happened. d) Something that bordered on the pornographic... Advantages: it's a second part of the cult movie

...Thirty years ago, director Bernardo Bertolucci shocked audiences with his sexually explicit “Last Tango In Paris”. And “The Dreamers” is second part of this film. I really don’t know why did he make second part of the film, if he knew that in this time, on the beginning of the brand new century, this film wouldn’t be too shocking after all. The Italian director has returned to the scene of the crime in another bare bottom bedroom study of erotic rejection and neglect. But, there’s a big difference between Tango and Dreamers. It is Paris, 1968. Matthew (Michael Pitt), young American, meets French twins Théo (Louis Garrel) and Isabelle (Eva Green) at the Cinémathèque Francaise, during demonstration against Henri Langlois. Advantages: good song
Disadvantages: rubbish high pitched singing

...is this typical of supertramp one of those hage 1970s rock acts when all the band members are crusty types with beards who park their fags in the strings on machine head whilst picking out a dreamy solo. Yep these are crustys. Dreamer is an organ driven song. a very catchy tune. with high pitched vocals. You'll find it on 70's various compillations and Im sure it has paid for a nice little nestegg for the crusty supertramp people. The lyrics dont make you want to punch the air not really very inspiring at all really.... Read review
