I like Selena because she was a very humble person and never forgot where she came from, she was always nice to people and made time for her fans, her music is very catchy and great to listen to, here is her bio:
Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas to Mexican American parents Abraham and Marcella. She had a brother A.B and a sister Suzette.
Selena first performed publically at age 9 with her band Selena Y Los Dinos, made up of Suzette on drums and A.B on guitar. They played at PapaGayos the restaurant co-owned by her father and Santos Serda Jr.
When Abraham saw how well the audience reacted to Los Dinos he got them gigs wherever he could, they played at weddings, country clubs and various other places. The band was then upgraded by 2 other members; Ricky Vela and Roger Garcia, and in 1983 they released their first record "Encontre e Amor".
A few years later, in the summer of 1991 they imployed a new member, a shy guy from San Antonio, Chris Perez, whom Selena would marry on April 2, 1992.
One day after a concert Selena's dad was approaced by a fan Yolanda Saldivar who wanted to create a fanclub for Selena Y Los Dinos, Abraham agreed and a fanclub was created with Yolanda as President, they also employed her to manage Selena's boutiques.
During the next few years Selena and Yolanda became good friends. During 1994 and early 1995 money started to go missing from the fanclub and the boutiques.
One worker went to Yolanda's house and saw that one of the rooms was decorated with posters of Selena and had a altar with candles on it-it was a shrine.
On March 31, 1995 Selena went to comfront Yolanda at the Days Inn Motel in Corpus Christi. They started to argue about the money and Yolanda pulled out a gun. Selena turned and ran but was shot in her right shoulder, she managed to run to reception and an ambulance was called. She was taken to the Memorial Medical Centre. Selena was pronounced dead at 1:05pm a hour after she was shot.
This day will be remembered for years to come as Black Friday.
It was a death that rocked the entire Latino music industry, being compared to the deaths of Elvis and John Lennon.
Yolanda was convicted for the murder in November 1995 and sentanced to at least 30 years in prison.
A special service was held in the Los Angelese Coliseum where Selena was due to give a concert and less than a month later Texas Govenor George.W.Bush declared April 16 "Selena day" in her honour.
"Dreaming of You" Selena's final album, was released in the early summer and became the first Tejano album to reach number 1 in America and was double platinum by the end of the year.
What Selena accomplished by 23 others would spend a lifetime trying to achieve. For that one cannot help but feel respect and admiration for this Corpus Christi role model that inspired and represented the hopes and dreams of millions of followers. And so Selena's legacy lives on, in our cherished memoriesand in everyone that has been touched by her music.
