I have been using Dreamweaver now for just over 2 years, i brought the how to do everything with Dreamweaver book, read it and then went out and brought the software.
I was amazed at how easy the interface was to use and found the tip's and help buttons like a book on their own.

It really is simple, so if you are worried about buying the software before reading a massive book then don't. Just go out, buy it and play around with it.
You will be amazed at how easy and basic it is to learn this software.
