Dubliners In Concert, The - Dubliners (The)

Advantages: A good collection of 20 songs from the 40 years, Good drinking tunes
Disadvantages: Nowhere near a big enough compilation of their best songs.

...superbly and again is another drinking song about a guy trying to get money for alcohol and tobacco. It’s another song with comedic elements but not quite as good as the last track. The Irish bands like the Dubliners excel them self not only in Drinking songs but that is where most of the inspiration points towards. The last song I am going to comment on is “The Irish Rover”, which was probably their biggest hit back in 1987 when they teamed up with the Pogues. This is my other favourite song by the Dubliners. Upbeat again it has a good tempo and is superb for singing along to. The vocals mix well between the Dubliners and Shane McGowan from the Pogues. The song is used for many London Irish occasions as they have added another verse on the end. The tempo is kept up throughout the song and is a great tune for keeping the spirits up... Read review

Advantages: Unfashionable, good songs
Disadvantages: A touch bland in places

...So a group of young Dubliners stand revealed as sort-of 70s West Coast country rock hippies with a touch of Burt Bacharach thrown in - American music from three decades ago with an Irish accent - and yours truly, who sometimes finds it difficult to get enthusiastic for anything musical post-1980, finds much to be said for a new CD released in the 21st century. Which of these is the more surprising? If you didn't catch up with all manner of praise being heaped on the five-piece Thrills, in their early days, you probably heard at least one of the three singles from this album breezing cheerfully out of a radio near you. ...What do you do when you are drunk? No I mean really drunk. When you senses have left you and you find yourself collapsed on the sofa. What do you think of? What do you want? When I'm a bit the worse for wear I want many things ( best not to go into them now but I'm sure you could guess most of them) but there is one thing I know will satisfy. The Dubliners collection is the perfect CD for this occassion. *** The Band *** The Dubliners are not your run of the mill Irish band. Oh no, to be sure there not! They had a top ten hit in the UK in 1967 with Seven Drunken Nights and they have had hits with Black Velvet Band and Never Wed an Old Man.
