No "sell-out" on the band's part, though, asDude Ranchsimply features another infectious collection of snotty vocals, punchy rhythms, vivid lyrics, and aggressive chords. San Diego producer Mark Trombino shines some of the scuffed edges, but this is still good ol' Blink at its sunny, effervescent best. Nice "emocore" spoof here ("Emo"), plus an odd knack for crafting bass-lines that recall--seriously!--New Order, and vocal harmonies that owe debts to the Beach Boys.--Mark Woodlief

I think a lot of people under-estimate Blink 182 and judge them just by their more popular release from '99 'Enema of The State' with which they received perhaps their first bout of major publicity and recognition. I have been a great fan of the Blink 182 lads ever since they were still in their original line-up with Scott Raynor on drums. I own 4 of their albums but out of them all Dude Ranch stands out as a musical wonder above the rest.

This album is a lot less commercial than Enema of The State as it is older and less publicised but is still far better in my opinion.

The cover is bright + colourful just how i like it and shows all 3 of the band in its original line-up in compromising positions on a ranch! The entire inlay is based on a country and western theme and you are shown various pictures of tom, mark and scott in their fetching cowboy suits and hats!!

14. Lemmings - about a guy who wants to find his friends and start all over again (2.38)

Overall this is an amazing album and the lyrics in each track relate to normal everyday things that teenagers and adults alike all have to go through in their lifetime, something we can all relate to. The congs are bouncy and have a great energy to them which makes this my favourite Blink 182 album so far!! Definitely worth buying!
Advantages: The catchy tunes! Disadvantages: Not much
...for the kiddies!!!
Other than this, Dude Ranch is a fantastic album. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll probably gasp in horror as your Grandmother finds the cover booklet and has a coronary taking a peek at the lyrics!
Good punk, good fun and well worth your money! ...

...released in 1997 and called Dude Ranch just shows you just how good Blink 182 are and I think that this album is better, it is a bit less commercial than Enema of the State. There have also been a lot of people saying that they have left their punk roots, but the music is still the same, just more popular.
Dude Ranch has and is probably cruder than Enema of the State, but this is good as this is a very funny album, with very humorous lyrics. Since ... ...changed and their drummer on Dude Ranch, Scott Raynor, has been swapped for their new drummer Travis Barker.
~~The Cover & Inlay~~
As with their music, the inlay and cover for Dude Ranch is very funny. The cover is a large bull which has been branded with “Blink 182” stood in a field with a sign saying “Dude Ranch”. The next thing that greets you when you look at the inlay is a nice greeting from Blink 182, with various ...

...of the reasons I bought Dude Ranch. A live in LA version of this track can be found on the What's my age again? single CD 1. The drumming sound outstanding with the guitar work and lyrics. All the extra drum beats are in time with the lyrics.Tom sings the whole song but Mark does cut in repeating a few of the words.
There is a little ending dialogue:
Ahhhhhhh.........(a few girls screaming)
(then Mark's deep voice cuts in with) What? It'll clear ... ...doctor said it's not infectious, it'll be gone in a week.
Lyrics:
I think of awhile ago
We might have had it all
But I was so stupid then
You needed time to grow
But now just as things change
As well my feelings do
In time things rearrange
I am so sick of chasing you
But what do I get 'cause I just seem to lose
You make me regret those times I spent with you
And playing those games as I wait for your call
And now I give up, so goodbye ...

Advantages: Raw sound Disadvantages: are there any?
Many Blink-182 fans will tell you that this is Blink-182 at their best, and it is very difficult to argue.
A 15 track album with some good fast tracks and also with many humerous unterludes and subjects.
Main tracks from this album are 'Dammit' and 'Josie' - both released in the US and helped to gain Blink-182 the majority of their pre-enema fans.
This Album was done before the band was fully signed up to a major label and so the production is ... ...much more raw sound which is very effective and different if you have only heard their latest stuff.
It has joke songs in 'Degenerate' (see title) and 'A New Hope' which is a song about Pricess Leah (star Wars). 'I'm sorry' which is the final track on the album also has a humourous bit on the ending as does 'untitled' which is also a fantastic track.
Blink-182 have some great tracks on this album such as Apple Shampoo, Dick Lip - which despite ...

Advantages: Something new, addictive Disadvantages: Too crazy?
I believe that Blink 182 are the biggest thing to happen to Punk Rock since Green Day arrived. Both "Dude Ranch" and "Enema of the State" are excellent albums, with my preference going to "Dude Ranch" as it is less commercial and more "raw". Because of the UK pop-orientated market, Blink 182's releases - "What's My Age Again", "All The Small Things" and to-be "Adam's Song" are all good tracks, but for punk rock fans the top tracks on "Enema of the ... ...However, if you prefer your music a little more raw than Enema of the State then I'd recommend "Dude Ranch" for you - which shows Blink 182 at their uncommerical best with fast drum beats and heavy guitar work. Along with their funny, outrageous style, tht is. The best song on "Dude Ranch" is Josie - which has to be a modern classic if you get my drift.
They're popular and they're very good. If you have to but one album then buy "Dude Ranch" - naah ...

Advantages: Great progress from Blink 182 Disadvantages: Hard to see why they changed direction away from pure punk
What a weird band Blink182 are. They find something they're good at by releasing the pleasingly punk DudeRanch, then move in a completely different direction. It's a pity - the punk songs like Dumpweed are superb. Still, this album will survive long in anyone's collection because it is fun to hear and there's something for everybody. Even if Blink182 can't quite pull off Adam's Song, the token serious track, they give it their best. DudeRanch showed them at the peak of their punk days, now in this more mainstream album they have a strangely different sound, but still show class. Oh, and the addition of Travis Barker on drums is inspired. He is brilliant - if only he had been around for DudeRanch. ...
Advantages: It being similar to their old stuff - great Disadvantages: lack of variety and new material
Blink-182's fifth full-length studio album, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, offers exactly what fans have come to expect from the so called punk-pop trio (bit of an oxymoron) and nothing more. Growth? Nah. Progression? Not exactly. Maturity? Hell, no.
"I'll never talk to you again, unless your dad will s*ck me off / I'll never talk to you again, unless your mom will touch my c*ck," sings bassist-vocalist Mark Hoppus on "Happy Holidays," one of many absolutely absurd, yet undeniably addictive tracks on take off you pants and jacket. "Break a window and bust a wall / Making fun of your friend's mom / Turn the music up way too loud / Charge a pizza to the house," he sings on "Reckless Abandon."
Blink-182 sticks to the winning formula of past efforts DudeRanch and Enema of the State on the album, an extremely well-produced, hard ...
So! The time has come, We all dreaded it, the boys have finally grown up and stop singing about going out and getting wasted. Yes, they've also calmed down.
The lastest album from Blink182, is a downfall compared to older albums such as DudeRanch, which was released previously. However, all is not is still a good listen, even thought it is now fringing more towards the Emo side. but dont fret - the melodic vocals of Tom and Mark still hit the target.
The tracks are somewhat dull and slow, and it seems that Blink182 have 'worn out' so to speak over the years. The Drums do pick up thru-out various songs, but generally most songs start slow.
With tracks such as 'I Miss You' which generally speaks for its self, but is about missing a certain someone - Blink182 Have definatly developed a new style.
whats my overall conclusion ...

Album Notes
Blink 182: Tom DeLonge (guitar, vocals); Mark Hopper (bass, vocals); Scott Raynor (drums). Additional personnel: Mark Trombino (piano, keyboards); Scott Russo. Recorded at Big Fish Studios, Encinitas, California. Following the release of their 1996 debut CHESHIRE CAT, Blink 182 returns with a satisfactory sophomore effort. Clearly influenced by the likes of Green Day and Weezer, Blink 182 provides fast, aggressive punk that is also melodic and fun. The trio's lyrics are filled with the angst and alienation that teens can relate to, while injecting humor also. "A New Hope" is an ode to Princess Leia and the Star Wars gang, while "Waggy" is a word bassist Mark Hoppus came up with while belching. Hard-core fans of the band will not be disappointed, as "Degenerate" is a re-recording from their demo tape, and "Lemmings" is from a split 7". All the songs on the record are catchy and infectious and hit single potential abounds. The musicianship is also there, as the chops are tight and worthy of comparison to any great punk band. Overall, DUDE RANCH proves the continued viability of punk-pop in the late '90s.
