Look at it this way. Take a Nu-Metal band, get the fundamental elements of superb metal music, then ditch the rule book. Add soulful, reachable lyrics which almost everyone can relate to, and you've got a great band. You've also got Staind.

I first heard of Staind via Napster, then went on to buy this album, and I was blown away. It starts good, is good in the middle, and ends superbly. There are no dud tracks on this album. Aaron's lyrics are really ...

Advantages: not pop, every song is good, jsut simply great music Disadvantages: cud add more variety
Just to start off I would like to say the bands I like in general: Adema, Spineshank, Greenday, Deftones, System of a Down, Saliva, Dope. I would say Staind are in the top 3 of my favourite bands. However unlike the other people on here I prefer their first album 'Dysfunction' I also think 'Break the Cycle' is great though. Here is the track listing:
Suffocate
Just Go
Me
Raw
Mudshovel
Home
A Flat
Crawl
Spleen
‘Dysfunction’ is quite different ... ...lot heavier, emotional and sinister. Aaron Lewis (the lead singer) has a great mellow voice with lots of variety. He can sing and shout unlike some leader singers of metal bands. I admit I learnt of Staind from a mate (I had also heard 'outside' quite a bit. I got 'Break the Cycle' and loved it. I share the view of most people that 'Epiphany' is the best track by Staind. It didn’t bring me to tears but I am a teenaged bloke so it wouldn’t. Great ...

Advantages: Up there with the best of artists Disadvantages: Hardly any
This album should be great addition to any rock-nu-metal fans collection. The stand out tracks are 'Outside' and the heart felt 'Waste' and the US single 'Its been a while'. These tracks are all relatively mellow but there are some louder tracks such as 'Can't Believe' which show their nu-metal roots clearly. They can also do ballads which Ephipany proves. They have the backing or the Rock superstar Fred Durst who sang with Aaron Lewis(Lead Singer) ... ...a bonus track at the end of the album. The lyrics are some what more intelligent that some of the other bands around at the moment like Papa Roach and Slipknot and even Limp Bizkit, they are on par with the intelligent Lyrics of the Deftones. Yes this isnt the most in your face rock album ever but its one of the best of recent times. ...

Advantages: continuation of a great band Disadvantages: doesnt quite capture the magic of 'Break The Cycle'
...I've heard people say that Staind havn't done themselves justice with this, the follow-up to 2001's 'Break The Cycle', a record of pure perfection and rock music at its best. Fact is, that they are probably right. '14 Shades Of Grey' is great in its own right, but when played straight after 'Break The Cycle' you just feel like something is missing.

Dysfunction (1999)
Break The Cycle (2001)
The emotive feel continues from the previous record, with two songs specifically written by Aaron Lewis. One, 'Zoe Jane', is for his recently born daughter and it really shows that he is a caring father and a great musician because its a fantastic ballad that any daughter would be proud to have sung about them.
The other, 'Layne', is about Layne Staley, the recently passed frontman of the grunge band Alice In Chains...

Advantages: Really good music with a good rhythm and good beats. Disadvantages: Swearing watch out for siblings.
...Review:
With The Eminem Show, Eminem just may have made the best rap-rock album in history. And that's not only because he reworks Aerosmith's "Dream On," on "Sing for the Moment." The Eminem Show is a hybrid theory of Jay-Z's hyperconfident The Blueprint, Staind's pained Dysfunction and Tupac's anti-hero masterpiece All Eyez On Me. The Eminem Show has the self-assurance of an artist at the top of his game and the game, the understanding that the music world is hanging on his every word and the willingness to shock even the most jaded ears.
Appropriately enough for a man closing in on thirty, The Eminem Show finds Eminem more mature and focused, if not kinder and gentler. "Without Me" -- like his "The Real Slim Shady," the leadoff single from 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP -- is a fun-loving, barb-laden romp on which he flits from...

...Yes, im a fan of Staind and quite frankly, am fed up to the back teeth of people who call them boring. I can understand that they may not be to everyone's tastes, but I have heard people put them down before even listening to their music because their ashamed of being uncool.

Dysfunction (1999)

Now for starters, Break The Cycle was not only the biggest selling rock album of 2001, but it was also one of top 10 sellers from any genre and had two singles, 'It's been a while' and 'outside', that both charted very high in the singles charts, which for a rock band is a massive achievement.
Staind are an extremely diverse band, with songs ranging from the verge of screaming to suddenly pulling off an absolute gem of a ballad. My favourite song would have to be 'Epiphany...
