This is the 'first' album from the almost one man band The Rocket Summer. Bryce Avary plays all the instruments on his tracks, but not, obviously, in the live concerts.
This album contains tracks from when Bryce first started making music as a teenager. It therefore contains songs everyone can, or once could, relate to.
A friend once described his style to me as 'happy emo' and there really is no better way of putting it. If you listened to the songs without listening to the words, you could mistakenly think he hates life, when in fact, he's usually rejoicing about something.
However, I have noticed that you can buy this album for prices such as £10.99 which ridiculous when it only contains 6 tracks. And yes these tracks are all really catchy and you can listen to a very talented person, but his gigs cost less than that. I bought mine from the Amazon website, but not Amazon itself for about a fiver. I'd say it was worth that.
The songs have slight pop tendencies, but could easily fit into other genres. The main instruments used are drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, and Bryce's unique melodic voice.
I would recommend buying this album, but possibly only after buying one of his later albums - either 'Hello, Good Friend' or 'Do You Feel'. I just think you're more likely to appreciate this album more after hearing his more recent sound, as it definitely develops, and his voice really improves. Once you adore The Rocket Summer, you will also adore this album.
