Chant- The Mournful Monks.
Review of Chant (Music For Paradise) - Monks Of The Cistercian Abbey Stift Heiligenkreuz (The) by MasonEsq

Advantages: Calming and soothing music.
Disadvantages: The tracks all generally resemble one another.

...this is characteristic of Gregorian chant and an inexorable style of chant. I would recommend this CD to be used as a meditative background sound or one to just listen to and be enveloped in, providing a great way to relax or even sleep. It is possible to purchase for £10, however it has been sold for more. Prices may have even been reduced further now so it may be of greater value to purchase now. ... Read review

Paradise Not Found
Review of Chant (Music For Paradise) - Monks Of The Cistercian Abbey Stift Heiligenkreuz (The) by maudfoster

Advantages: Very professional production
Disadvantages: Does not stand out from similar offerings

Not sure what it is about this particular recording that has garnered so many accolades. Yes, it's soothing, pleasant and melodius, but so are most chants , and to my admittedly inexpert ears ,this is no better than similar offerings that often turn up in the 'price reduced' racks of record stores, book and gift shops. An expert in this form of music may well disagree , but I reckon that if you are simply in the market for relaxing sounds, you could ...
...local church . You will often find a good selection of very similar recordings that have not had the benefit of a major recording company to promote them, but they are none the worse for this in terms and content or quality Why plough funds into the cloisters of some far-flung monastery when there are plenty of lovely old churches closer to home that would appreciate a donation to their coffers. ... A surprising triumph...
Review of Inspired By The Chronicles Of Narnia (The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe) - Various Artists by rosieemma91

Advantages: Brilliant sounding, stirs the imagination
Disadvantages: Not for anyone afraid of classical music

There are some people who think that music from a movie soundtrack isn't going to be any good without the dramatic backdrop of a raging battle or a lingering kiss. Well, not the case with the Narnia soundtrack. The main theme in itself is amazing, filled with built up suspense and gorgeous sounds. The best track is quite possibly one titled Battle. As the name suggests, it is the same song which plays during the big battle between the witch and ... Read review

Wakeman = brilliance
Review of Live In Concert (+DVD) - Rick Wakeman by salmonf1

Advantages: brilliant in everyway
Disadvantages: people not into his music may not like

Rick Wakeman. As a pianist he is one of my greatest inspirations. Wakeman, Yes and piano enthusiasts will see this concert as no less then sublime. The show starts of with cannon in d major playing on an empty stage as the camera pans around the audience. Wakemen then comes on and starts playing the very same piece flawlessly. In many of his shows he does a mixture of classical, solo and yes pieces on his piano's and keyboards. He also tells stories, ...
...until the end. In terms of his playing he is sublime. Each piece is played expertly and fluently. There is a section where he does a variety of nursery rhymes in the style of famous classical composers. This is a challenging feat, and he does it brilliantly with marvelous comical effect. His stories are of his life in and out of music, he tells them with great charm and humour, he also tells many orginal and witty jokes when he is not playing. all ... Read review

Still A Classic
Review of Magnetic Fields - Jean Michel Jarre by atytyut2434

Advantages: It's excellent
Disadvantages: Are there any?

...albums to stand out. Magnetic Fields Part 1- There are several different sections to part one and i do like them all. I like the 1st bit because it's upbeat but sufficiently trancy enough for modern clubbers to still enjoy & want to buy as a chill out but it's still something you could dance to. That's basically the opening 6 minutes. You then get a quietish section which eventually becomes a track I am convinced sounds a whole lot like Fishing ...
...as its quite uplifting. Magnetic Fields Part 2 - It's known and loved It's been used on the telly & for adverts, its been copied by every synth band known to man I think it was also used on the C64 version of Bombjack as background music. Magnetic Fields Part 3 - the track that reminds me of Orient Express (again from Concerts In China) because of the train sounds on the intro, This is a very "plinky plonky " track. Not a favourite of mine though. ... Read review
