Great songs, great singer, disappointing CD
Advantages: Some of the best songs ever written! Disadvantages: Very bland
...album title is 'John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter', but he doesn't really. Swing, that is. Most of the songs plod along quite happily, at a medium tempo, with little or no evidence of any tendency to break loose or swing in any fashion. Even the usually manic 'Anything Goes' just ambles slowly along. You can hear each wonderful word, but because there's a lack of excitement or involvement in the track (apart from a nice interjection from the brass ... ...should be a glorious firework turns into a damp squib.
Elsewhere, he sings a number of Cole Porter's sad songs of regret, a genre which includes (from this album) 'Just One of Those Things', 'After You, Who?' and 'Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye'. Usually heart-rending, these songs just come across as pretty. On the opening track, 'Just One of Those Tings', the sad subtext is lost somewhere, and the superficial message comes through instead. We should ...

The Virus is Airborne
Advantages: Hugely atmospheric, excellent songwriting Disadvantages: Can take a number of listens to really get into.
At the time of the release of their second full length, 'Surface To Air', prog rock/synth duo Zombi embarked on a US tour with the hugely successful progessive metal band Isis, and their influence on Zombi shows, right down to the sleeve art. The front cover of 'Surface To Air' shows an aerial photograph of a mysterious blue landscape, and the inner sleeve contains similar pictures of vast cloud formations and river networks in a variety of garish ... ...cover is strikingly similar to the cover of Isis' 2004 album 'Panopticon', which also features a deep blue-coloured aerial shot taken from a similar altitude. There are musical similarities between the two albums too, however these are much more subtle. Though very different-sounding (Isis are essentially sludge metal with progressive leanings), both albums strive to create an elevated, "floaty" feeling, using sustained waves of sound and contemplative ...

I just haven't met him yet!!
Advantages: Some of his own songs, some classics Disadvantages: None
...Georgia On My Mind and Crazy Love to name but a few. In my opinion he does a good job with each song, putting his own spin on it but still keeping the same essence of each song which I like. The rest of the album is as follows: "Cry Me a River" "All of Me" "Georgia on My Mind" "Crazy Love" "Haven't Met You Yet" "All I Do Is Dream of You" "Hold On" "Heartache Tonight" "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You" "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)" "At This ...

Swinging and Swaying Into The Spotlight
Advantages: A superb mix of tracks on an accomplished debut album Disadvantages: One or two weaker links.
...has been the Canadian crooner Michael Bublé. THE SINGER & ALBUM Grammy award-winning Michael Bublé burst on to the scene with his eponymous debut in 2003, which features a number of well-known covers spanning several decades of popular music. It was received extremely well by both the paying public and music critics alike, winning him the honour of Best New Talent at Canada’s 2004 Juno Awards (think the equivalent of the Brits). Along with ... ...one of my favourite George Michael songs, “Kissing A Fool”, and the Van Morrison classic “Moondance”. I bought the album on the back of hearing his rendition of “Come Fly With Me” and when I examined the track listing, I suspected he may have bitten off more than he could chew. It’s one thing to cover a Peggy Lee classic, which, perhaps a younger audience would not have heard so much – but another thing entirely to take on a consummate showman like ...

The most wonderful album
Advantages: Beautiful tracklist, lovely voice Disadvantages: None
...is a traditional hymn that Camilla performs wonderfully, recently you may have also heard Faryl Smith singing this on her sophmore album (as well as her debut) Wonderland and while both versions are beautiful, I found Camilla’s more pleasing. It could be because I’m more of a Camilla fan to be honest, but it is…pretty darn amazing! I Can’t Help Falling In Love is a song I’d only heard once before, I’d heard Mark Owen sing it on youtube and really ... ...lovely. Most people will know Camilla for this track which is good because it shows her talents very well. I had no idea what to expect with Rain, I’d never heard of it before and sadly google didn’t help me much so I listened with great curiosity. I LOVED it. It’s so bright and joyful, perfect to listen to in the springtime I think. It just conjures up lovely imagery, I can see a lovely garden and fairies, it would be perfect for a family movie ...
