...albums (including some duets). Una Mattina is his seventh album, and contains all new tracks. 'Una Mattina' translates as 'one morning' and the music is as simple as this title. It is another of his solo piano albums, although it does feature the cello in some tracks. It flows where you expect it to, although not in a boring way. The music ripples along, and the cello brings real emotion in certain tracks. The subtle variations in the music and tempo ... ...a suite of pieces. The music is very calming and relaxing, and evokes feelings of peace and tranquility. It is suitable as background music, or simply to listen and relax to.
A few people might recognise one of the tracks, Nuvole Bianche from a TV advert for Baci chocolates, used at Christmas time last year. This and 'Ora' are my favourite tracks, although 'A Fuoco' featuring cello makes a close second. The cello tracks (played by Marco Decimo) ...

When listening to Ludovico Einaudi's Le Onde my emotions were flung around like a child on a roller coaster ride. Just as you think your spirit could go no higher your inner soul is tossed out like a wave being thrashed against the rocks by the sea. Calmly your mind settles as the play begins to mellow gently the music deepens and as I gently breath a breath into my lungs my mind becomes full of elation. And 'elegance and openness' is the best way to describe the music that is on this CD. The inside of the inlay of the CD tells that one time the composer was driving through part of Africa when a piece of music came on the radio. The music told the story ... ...or a loved one. I am not at all sure what this has got to do with the music on the CD - perhaps this piece of the music and the story behind it gave inspiration for the music, but I'm not sure about that.

The Waves (Le Onde) Straight away, you can hear the repetitive and rhythmic nature of the piece on solo piano, and this is how Einaudi feels waves are; rhythimic, but with subtle changes each time, and they can be heard in the ever changing but always ... ...great to help you to fall asleep because the underlying rhythms are so strong and hypnotic. 2. African Melody III (Melodia Africana III)
This is very similar to Le Onde, such that there is the repetitive nature, which varies slightly and has the ongoing, unrelenting rhythm which allows the piece to keep moving forward. The two discs are presented in a wonderful (but slightly thick) case ... ...in-depth sleeve notes - entirely in Italian! Not sure if this is my one or all of them, but I do believe the paragraph is on his web page in English.
The music itself has a great flow, and his playing just emanates emotion. Melodia Africana shows us his memories of Africa as wonderfully as Giorni Dispari empathises with us when we're having 'one of those days'.
