The Essential John Barrowman - John Barrowman Advantages: Great singing voice, left me singing the songs for hours. Disadvantages: I can't find any! The One and Only. No not Chesney Hawks. The other one and only; Mr John Barrowman of course! Chilling Synth Advantages: hugely atmospheric, varied, well constructed songs Disadvantages: Some may consider their retro stylings dated (but that would be missing the point) I love zombie movies- not the modern garbage that Hollywood has taken to pumping out of late, but the eerie and unsettling classics of the 70s and 80s such as Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead and Lucio Fulci's Zombie Flesh Eaters. One of the things that afforded these films their timeless quality was that they all featured soundtracks by 70s Italian progressive rock/synth composers such as Goblin, giving them a creepy quality that makes the hairs ... ...a way that modern horrors never seem to manage. Zombi are a two man group hailing from Pittsburgh USA who pick up where Goblin left off, creating sinister yet proggy soundscapes of pulsing analog synths, funky basslines and jazzy drums. Their output is purely instrumental, and guitars are also absent, the songs being essentially keyboard-driven. Rich waves of synthesized sound bleed into one another, as the album ebbs from urgent, throbbing beats ... The Virus is Airborne Advantages: Hugely atmospheric, excellent songwriting Disadvantages: Can take a number of listens to really get into. At the time of the release of their second full length, 'Surface To Air', prog rock/synth duo Zombi embarked on a US tour with the hugely successful progessive metal band Isis, and their influence on Zombi shows, right down to the sleeve art. The front cover of 'Surface To Air' shows an aerial photograph of a mysterious blue landscape, and the inner sleeve contains similar pictures of vast cloud formations and river networks in a variety of garish ... ...cover is strikingly similar to the cover of Isis' 2004 album 'Panopticon', which also features a deep blue-coloured aerial shot taken from a similar altitude. There are musical similarities between the two albums too, however these are much more subtle. Though very different-sounding (Isis are essentially sludge metal with progressive leanings), both albums strive to create an elevated, "floaty" feeling, using sustained waves of sound and contemplative ... Advantages: outstanding artist, amazing come-back, beautiful cover, great songs, great extra DVD Disadvantages: none Yusuf - the Roadsinger is back Cat Stevens, who's name officially is Yusuf Islam since 1977, is back! Without making much noise, he has published his new album "Roadsinger" in May. My father is a huge fan of this artists and, of course, immediately set out to get the CD and now we listen to it in the car all the time. Now I want to review this lovely, harmonic album. First, I will tell you about Yusuf himself because I think that knowing some ... ...of the journey of the roadsinger who roams through the land, on the search for luck that every human being might be on. Emotional rollercoater leaving none of your emotions untouched Advantages: Makes you feel alive Disadvantages: Can leave you feeling a bit drained after going through so many emotions that Ludovico provokes. When listening to Ludovico Einaudi's Le Onde my emotions were flung around like a child on a roller coaster ride. Just as you think your spirit could go no higher your inner soul is tossed out like a wave being thrashed against the rocks by the sea. Calmly your mind settles as the play begins to mellow gently the music deepens and as I gently breath a breath into my lungs my mind becomes full of elation.
