SATCH! Where it all started!!
Advantages: Amazingly good and different for the era guitar playing Disadvantages: no vocals, hard to relate to for non musicians
...Track List
1. Surfing With The Alien- 4:25- This iconic opening track features wah-wah riffs far removed from anything else of its time and a almost legendary pull of solo, The Riff of this track makes it one of the most memorable songs on the album as well as one of the most technically brilliant
2. Ice-9 -3.59- This song is an example of how joe can build complex and beatiful melody lines out of otherwise simple chord patterns, This song gives ... ...up to solos. instead of diving right in there! as many do these days!
3. Crushing Day - 5:14- My favourite song on the album, This song is satriani at his best, a memorable melody line and a strong prominent chord sequence, this song builds up magnificently into one of my favourite solo sections, shows great use of the whammy bar skills and legato sections which he is famous for, a must try for any guitarist.
4. Always With Me, Always With You- ...

Holy Moly!
Advantages: Ethereal Guitar; Experimentation With Genres; He Tries Singing Disadvantages: He Tries Singing
...that holy day. Flying In A Blue Dream has a whopping 18 tracks on it, and runs well over an hour of playing time. I sat in my bedroom and listened to it straight through twice. The first time I think my mouth hung open the whole time. The second time it only hung open part-way through it. There is some incredible guitar-playing contained in this album...but that's true for all of Joe Satriani's releases. It's what he does. In the second track, "The ... ...a lot of ground with Flying in a Blue Dream. He tries out vocals, different styles and different instruments, as well as including several tracks of his signature power-guitar-playing. It's also a more produced album than Surfing With the Alien. It incorporates more filling in each song than just the basic guitar/bass/drums of Surfing... and correspondingly, sounds more full in the ear. Just like a microbrewed Stout or Porter has more "mouthfeel" ...

Satriani - Still a musical genius
Advantages: Classic satch styles, New styles Disadvantages: None
This album is definately not Satriani at his best - However thats not to say that this is a poor album. The album still contains classic satch attributes with its many hard hitting riffs and it's techniqual and melodic solos although he also experiments with new characteristics such as funk and electronic styles. Joe demonstrates on this album his versatility in style . He presents a wide range of styles going from the more gentle sounds of "Love ... ...like "Lights Of Heaven" and "Crystal Planet". For me, the tracks which stood out where "Crystal Planet", "Love Thing", "Train Of Angels" "Lights Of Heaven" and "Ceremony" which are all great examples of Satriani's outstanding work and would certainly enter the favourites of many Satriani fans . For any Satch Fan this is a must have. ...

Strange, but Beautiful...
Advantages: One of the greatest instrumental guitarists of all time Disadvantages: Not quite an essential, "must have" album
To guitarists world-wide, the name Joe Satriani is synonymous with words like technique, speed, melody and "how-the-hell-did-he-do-that?!". A gifted guitarist and musician, Joe Satriani has been releasing he unique style of rock/metal for two decades.
'Strange Beautiful Music' was released in 2002 and, like most of Satriani's studio releases is an instrumental album and as such finds Joe playing various styles and types of guitar, from his normal ... ...reggae-esque style with many different things in between. Thrown into the mix are banjos, keyboards and what been credited as a 'Frippitronic' guitar, (played by Robert Fripp of King Crimson himself no less). Quite what a Frippitronic guitar is I'm not entirely sure, but Fripp's appearance on the album is impressive, even if it is for only one track. The album also features a harp played by Pia Vai, (who from what I've been able to deduce on the ...
