The last official release from the Jimi Hendrix Experience, "Electric Ladyland" was originally a produced a lavish double album, it's now been released on a single CD. It's packed full of classic music - almost too much for one listening. At least the changing over of the vinyl records would ... Read review

Advantages: Classic tracks, truly experimental music Disadvantages: Blues jams take a while to get into
..."Have you ever been (to electric ladyland)" a soulful song, sounding closest to Curtis Mayfield, but there's no mistaking the bass guitar and Hendrix's lead guitar, doing adventurous things, way down in the mix.
With "Crosstown traffic", famously used on TV ads, we're into more familiar Hendrix territory. I used to dislike the backing vocals, which always sounded rather 'thin', but I've got used to them now. A good put-down song, ("I've got better ... ...track all round.
"Voodoo chile", at 15 minutes long, is a mammoth jam session. For first time listeners, I think I'd advise programming it out to start with - it's excellent stuff, along the lines of what Eric Clapton would go on to do with Derek and the Dominoes, great blues, but not the strongest point on "Electric Ladyland", for me. Best appreciated later, when you've had your fill of the other tracks.
"Burning of the midnight lamp" is, I think ...

Grooovy Man Review ofElectric Ladyland [Remastered] - Jimi Hendrixby
Mauri
...in 1967.
In many ways Electric Ladyland develops the experiments in musical fusion that he began on his earlier records particularly ‘Are You Experienced?.
I think this is the record that really cemented the Hendrix sound, and more importantly showed other rock artists and fans that rock music could break free from the narrow elements of Rhythm and Blues and incorporate any musical style. Electric Ladyland is far more than a great rock album, in ... ...‘HAVE YOU EVER BEEN (to Electric Ladyland)’ which has a laid back, easy feel to it entering the realms of soul-phychedelia. From now on the hits come thick and fast. Track three is ‘CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC’ a classic song most recently used for an advert re-mixed by Fat-Boy Slim. This song is pure audio sex, a weird fusion of funk souls and full out rock, with a thrusting guitar solo. Still sounds great today. The pace slows for the next song but the intensity ...

Advantages: too many - it's great, before its time Disadvantages: none
...Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland) A great melodic track which is actually very under-rated in my opinion. 3. Crosstown Traffic WOW!! This is a two and a half minute flurry of hendrix tells a humorous little story that compares a dead end love affair to a traffic jam. 4. Voodoo Chile This is a wonderful fifteen minute long version of the blues epic Voodoo Chile, which genuinely reveals the roots of Hendrix's songwriting and guitar playing. ... ...too. Put this on in the background of whatever you may be doing. 5. Little Miss Strange The one disappointing track on this album which was written and arranged by Noel Redding, the Experience's bassist. The song is actually okay, but it has too much of a Beatles feel, and when placed Hendrix's own material it feels out of place. 6. Long Hot Summer Night A great little tuneful bluesy-funk track that has a great riff (du-du-du-du-der-der-du-du-der) ...

Have You Ever Been???? Review ofElectric Ladyland [Remastered] - Jimi Hendrixby
bluemackaw
Advantages: One of the best albums ever made! Disadvantages: None
...'Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland)', the third track then takes you into 'Crosstown Traffic' likening a difficult lady to the harassment of rush hour in the big city. The good old British pop sound is here to in 'Little Miss Strange' and to some extent 'Let the Good Times Roll'! It's all here and is absolutely flawless from start to finish! The album cover is interesting with a large number of naked ladies, which apparently Jimi didn't like ...

Simply the best ever Review ofElectric Ladyland [Remastered] - Jimi Hendrixby
esche
Advantages: Supreme guitar, excellent lyrics Disadvantages: none, this is the best album ever
...ever to walk the earth. Electric Ladyland is a perfect blend of many of his best ever tracks. The whole album flows seamlessly from song to song, each as good as the last. There are to tracks that rise above the rest of the album into the stratasphere. These are "All Along the Watchtower" (the re-make of Bob Dillan's song), and of course the 15 minute version of "Voodoo Chile". No-one can ever touch those songs. The lyrics are sublime and are surpassed ...
