A Turning Point Review ofElectric Warrior - T. Rexby

Advantages: The very essence of glam rock Disadvantages: Now a little dated
...Bolan had already produced some electric product before Electric Warrior this album can be considered to be a turning point as Bolan rushed headlong into ‘pop’ and more particularly glam rock music. If the aim was to achieve immense sales and huge stardom then it was successful. Alas it alienated the fan base Bolan had built before then and though many stayed loyal it was now the teenage market he satisfied most.
The album produced 2 ... ...Bolan. His abilities with the electric guitar were underestimated. He could play with precision and gusto and without any apparent effort. Bolan was comfortable with his guitar and used it as an extension of his persona and stage act. ‘Cosmic Dancer’ and ‘Girl’ are very similar tracks. Both are much slower than ever would be considered for a single and full of extravagant orchestral arrangements. They give proof that Bolan ...

Advantages: a great overall album, some great songs Disadvantages: Some repetitive songs
...beautiful in its simplicity. The electric guitar joins in occasionally, but the absence of drums throughout is really quite refreshing compared with the driving rhythms of some of the other songs. The chorus is quite repetitive, but somehow this isn’t irritating.
9. The Motivator
This is probably my least favourite track on the album. That’s not to say that it’s bad, just that it doesn’t appeal to me like many of the other songs do. I find this ... ...the same pretty much the entire way through. The guitar riff is also repetitive, but typical T-Rex.

This is one of my favourites on this album: it became a bit of an anthem for me at one time with its chorus of “It really doesn’t matter at all”. There is a painful poignancy in the line, “Life’s a gas, hope it’s gonna last”, and this seems to be echoed by the lilting rhythm and Bolan’s crooning voice. This song just seems to work: ...

...This album has become a classic, being released back in 1972 it is another example of music that stands the test of time.
Some call it glam rock others pop or indeed rock. Whatever title it is given this is music at its purest form, the album has so much to offer the listener, the tracks offer a diverse range of sounds, from slow ballads through to upbeat tempos.
The Slider saw T Rex at its peak, it followed another classic album called ElectricWarrior and a lot of people doubted that this album could be as good. For me The Slider is the best album that was ever released by T Rex.
T Rex was a band fronted by Marc Bolan (whose life was tragically cut short in a car crash two weeks before his thirtieth birthday) As with a lot of bands in the seventies they undertook changes and evolved. To a lot of people T Rex and Marc Bolan were one...
