Great Stuff
Review of Singles Collection, The - Massive Attack by ReesyUK

Advantages: Great Collecetion of easy listening techno/house classics
Disadvantages: Some of the what were classics now sound dated

Massive attack have undoubtedly broken through many barriers whilst creating their own amazinf form of music attracting many admirers and many imitators, whom never quite manage to acheive the same success. This album demonstrates them at their peak with hit after hit showing their diverse msucial talents and roots. The classic massive attack anthem unfinsished symphony, everybody has heard and knows this song tops off a fantastic collection of current ...
...that they are not passed their best as they deliver another classic, with a slow groove and an amazing vocal perfromance. There are some amazing vocal performances on this album and they on their own demand listening. However the only place this album falls down are in some of the older tracks, no doubting they are worth a listen but what was once groundbreaking now can sound boring and dated and occasionally, very occasionally, the song length can ... Listenable
Review of Juxtapose - Tricky/DJ Muggs/Grease by thereview

Advantages: More listenable than previous efforts
Disadvantages: No tracks especially strong

After the barely listenable career low of 'Angels With Dirty Faces', Tricky changes direction with 'Juxtapose' creating an album that you can actually like. The opener "For Real" sees the Bristol born artist observing life in the music industry, shrewdly noting: 'When the record company drops me, that's when I learn'. "I Like The Girls" is a juvenile song with superb rapping from Mad Dog. "Contradictive" sees a simple guitar riff played against ...
...- the chill out track of the album. Martina, who used to sing alongside Tricky, is not here, and this is highly noticeable. Whilst the substitutes do fill in adequately enough, the special magic is not there. Although this is not a bad album, and certainly more accessible than some of his previous efforts, Tricky has a long way to go beore he reaches the masterpiece that was 'Maxinquaye'. Here on 'Juxtapose' not only does he suffer from the absence ... Read review

Missed the point entirely
Review of Vegas - Crystal Method (The) by crustypaul

Advantages: If you have no imagination you will love it
Disadvantages: Dull, over produced, missing the whole point

If you like clean and polished american big beat then you are going to love this but basically it is a feeble attempt to cash in on the chemical brothers market and getting it wrong. The Crystal Method have even committed the bizarre crime of sampling a ring modulator sweep from the chemical brothers themselves on the track 'keep hope alive'. Surely if you are writing big beat then sampling from the chemical brothers is just blasphemy unless you ...
...the case here. In one swift move this album proves that america has missed the point of big beat entirely. This album is way too over produced and clean sounding. I can hear advertising executives at car manufacturers around the world drooling at the thought of it. These guys are capable of doing it right, anyone remember the version of 'Trip Like i Do' they did with filter?, so why have they got it so wrong here? The Crystal Method have become ... Read review

Spiller - Groovejet (if this ain't..) single vinyl
Review of Groovejet (Single) - Spiller by Art007

Advantages: Great mixes, full length
Disadvantages: none

I have actually got Spiller "Groovejet (If This ain't Love)" single on vinyl. I bought it from HMV, in 2006 for about £3 brand new. It has two tracks on it; "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)-Extended Vocal Mix" with Sophie Ellis-Bextor 07:27 and "Groovejet-Solar Stone's Jet Groove Dub Mix". 05:55 It is essentially a DJ's copy but I play it myself. Two great mixes of this cult classic on Positiva recordings. It came out in 2000 and can still be ... Read review

Deeper Shades of Euphoria- Jay Burnett
Review of Deeper Shades Of Euphoria Vol.2 (Mixed By Jay Burnett) - Various Artists by Art007

Advantages: Great mixes, chilled, value for money
Disadvantages: Two weak tracks, nothing major.

This 2CD compilation by Jay Burnett is very, very good. CD1 is relatively poor compared to CD2, which is amazing. Alternative mixes of Dido, Spiller "Cry Baby", Motorcycle "When the rush comes". David Bowie vs Scumfrog appears with an excellent "Loving The Alien". "Janeiro" by Solid Sessions is so, so chilled and takes my mind to another dimension. Maybe there is two weak tracks on the album being Moony "Dove" and Kylie Minogue "Love At First ... Read review
