Tomas Jenkinson's odd one
Review of Selection Sixteen - Squarepusher by
gantzgraf
Advantages: A few good tracks with nice jazz instrumentation.
Disadvantages: Boring acid loops. Clichéd rubbish.
...he would release this album, Selection Sixteen.
Selection Sixteen is, in my opinion, a flawed album; it could also be seen as a joke in which Tom would exorcise his dread of the ordinary and the clichéd, by reproducing it- but I think it could also be seen as a transition between his 1998-99 period and his latter works Go Plastic (Warp, 2001) and Do You Know Squarepusher? (Warp, 2002).
Selection Sixteen has a running time of 46 minutes approx. ... ...beautiful and colourful sound, finishing Selection Sixteen off with a fairly good track.
I shall conclude by saying that Selection Sixteen is one of Squarepusher's weakest efforts. It does however contain some precious moments, such as Cool Veil, Freeway, Yo and the nameless track nbr 17.
If you want to hear some real 1999 Squarepusher, try out Budakhan Mindphone instead.

Obscenely Ultra
Review of Ultra Obscene - Breakbeat Era by
mattmorrison
Advantages: range of tracks, every one is excellent
Disadvantages: nothing except it might be hard to find
Nurtured under the wings of DJ Shadow and looking up to Roni Size like an uncle, a masterpiece was firmly expected from the latest Drum 'n' bass super-creation Breakbeat Era. And lo, unto us, a masterpiece was borne. This album is truly incredible. It has so many standout tracks that you will remember, not just one or two. And shockingly enough, where I feel that Roni Size's 'New Forms' featured a couple of weak experimentals, this album goes totally ...

Roni Size/Reprazent -In The Mode
Review of New Forms - Roni Size/Reprazent by
riccy010
Advantages: universal appeal
Disadvantages: earlier material is better
...Mercury Music Prize winning album New Forms, but they're boasting a rougher more frentic sound.A mish-mash of drum 'n' base, hip hop, rock and R&B,with rapping from the likes of Dynamite,Method Man and Rage Against The Machine's Zack De La Rocha, there's a heavier vocal assault than you'd expect. The best tracks are the brilliant opener,Railing and the funky System Check for that Reprazent sound. This album would appeal to people who are in to a wide range ...

Spiller - Groovejet (if this ain't..) single vinyl
Review of Groovejet (Single) - Spiller by
Art007
Advantages: Great mixes, full length
Disadvantages: none
I have actually got Spiller "Groovejet (If This ain't Love)" single on vinyl.
I bought it from HMV, in 2006 for about £3 brand new. It has two tracks on it; "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)-Extended Vocal Mix" with Sophie Ellis-Bextor 07:27
and "Groovejet-Solar Stone's Jet Groove Dub Mix". 05:55
It is essentially a DJ's copy but I play it myself.
Two great mixes of this cult classic on Positiva recordings.
It came out in 2000 and can still be ...

Deeper Shades of Euphoria- Jay Burnett
Review of Deeper Shades Of Euphoria Vol.2 (Mixed By Jay Burnett) - Various Artists by
Art007
Advantages: Great mixes, chilled, value for money
Disadvantages: Two weak tracks, nothing major.
This 2CD compilation by Jay Burnett is very, very good.
CD1 is relatively poor compared to CD2, which is amazing.
Alternative mixes of Dido, Spiller "Cry Baby", Motorcycle "When the rush comes". David Bowie vs Scumfrog appears with an excellent "Loving The Alien". "Janeiro" by Solid Sessions is so, so chilled and takes my mind to another dimension.
Maybe there is two weak tracks on the album being Moony "Dove" and Kylie Minogue "Love At First ...
