great but not pendulum's best
Review of In Silico - Pendulum by n4ballack

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

this is some of the best drum and bass out there. however, it is not pendulum's best material. the best song on this album is granite. i would definitely recommend this to electronic and drum and bass fans but not so much to the techno fans. pendulum is amazing though, they have a truly addictive sound and every song is an extraordinary work of art, this album is an example of that. i recently went to one of their concerts and they are amazing live!! ... Pendulum - In Silico. A New Album A New Sound.
Review of In Silico (Special Edition) [ECD] - Pendulum by lustba

Advantages: New Sound, Original, Its Pendulum
Disadvantages: Not for everyone, New Sound

...was due to be released in mid March, then got pushed back to mid April, and has now been released on May 12th. Pendulum have released two singles from the album so far, these have been "Granite" and "Propane Nightmares". Granite, being released on 4th November 2007 and Propane Nightmares on 12th March. The term "In Silico", the title of the album, means a process that is simulated on a computer or within a computer simulated environment. This title ...
...changes, much like it does in "Another Planet" on the album "Hold Your Colour" except without the "Suddenly there was a change voiceover". The synths play a lot more of a role during this part of the song, the bass is still pushing through at a fast pace making for a thoroughly enjoyable song for the duration- 5 mins 28 secs. My rating for this track would be 10/10, switching from a fast pace to a slow pace at many times in the song I have enjoyed ... Read review

Great:Music
Review of Dat:Music - Various Artists by chrisv

Advantages: Good value unmixed innovative sounds
Disadvantages: Not for the "harder" style d&b fans

I wonder if we will begin to define Drum & Bass by record labels instead of ambiguous sub-genres in the future? We could say that Soul:r belongs somewhere in the liquid funk spectrum, but I think that it transcends this labelling and incorporates a beautiful myriad of soundscapes all of its own. All tracks on the compilation are well produced and polished. "Wide Eyes" by Marcus Intalex is a really nice venture into d&b electro minimalism; it's really ...
...forward. "Heaven Sent" is another one of my favourites, with some beautiful vocals from Robert Manos that accompany the haunting background perfectly. If you liked "Move On" (released on Hospital), then you will love this. As always, each Calibre track is spot on (and there are three); I hate to repeat what others say, but really, you can't go wrong with Calibre! "Deranged" is my personal favourite from him on this compilation with some good use ... Read review

Odd but amazing!
Review of Tim Exile's Nuisance Gabaret Lounge - Exile by LadyFantomex

Advantages: Very innovative, doesn't take itself too seriously
Disadvantages: Can be challenging to listen to

...by saying, imagine if Monty Python released a drum and bass album, with all the English eccentricity and humour, but still outstanding quality. Plus, if you do decide to buy this album, your next step should certainly be to go see Tim live! It's like nothing you could imagine! ... Read review

Drum & Bass or Not?
Review of Hello Everything (Limited Edition) - Squarepusher by ZX81

Advantages: Broad range of musical styles keeps album intresting
Disadvantages: 2nd disc is a disappointing

The problem with Squarepusher is always trying to catagorize his music, and this album is no exception. Everything from IDM, Drum & Bass and acid through to experimental electronica and jazz is covered. On that note, take caution, if you are purchasing this album because of tracks such as \"Come On My Selector\" from the album \"Big Loada\" this may not be for you. While tracks like \"Hello Meow\", \"Planetarium\", \"Rotate Electroylte\" , \"Welcome ...
...complicated drums & structure of typical uptempo IDM tracks the remaining 6 tracks are alot more ambient. While this is a puls in one sense of adding more variety to the album it makes it a little difficult to get into the album, as the changes in style can be quite distracting. This is not to take away from Mr. Jenkinson in anyway at all (in my opinion one of the greatest all round musicians to date). The musical ability required to create this ... Read review
