The first cacophonous, discordant keyboards shimmered out, the massive beats kicked in and everyone immediately got back up to dance without saying a word, it was just the right thing to do. The album was brand new, so it wasn't as if this was a familiar song that we all knew and loved; it was just an instant CRASH moment where everyone just looks at each other and smirks. ...
...a lot of the tunes are radically different from each other but the album works because the Chemicals know how to make an album; with them, it's always a journey more than a collection of tracks,and each track segues effortlessly into the next, moving up in tempo then coming back down again at just the right time. First impressions count a lot in terms of music, and the album's title track, the first track of the album really annouces the return of the Chemical Brothers. Heavy aggressive beats, with crazy strings going everywhere, everything merges to create a sound which could fill stadiums. The next track, It Began in Afrika, is an African Tribal Drum psyche out dance tune. It's funky, trance inducing and very danceable. This quality continues throughout ...
...beats. It may peter out slightly with the end 2 or 3 tracks, but overall, the album is very good. It's just a shame that it's standout tracks, "Come with Us", "It Began in Afrika" and "My Elastic Eye" just don't seem to have the killer edge that previous Chemical Brothers albums have had. I have actually got Spiller "Groovejet (If This ain't Love)" single on vinyl. I bought it from HMV, in 2006 for about £3 brand new. It has two tracks on it; "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)-Extended Vocal Mix" with Sophie Ellis-Bextor 07:27 and "Groovejet-Solar Stone's Jet Groove Dub Mix". 05:55 It is essentially a DJ's copy but I play it myself. This 2CD compilation by Jay Burnett is very, very good. CD1 is relatively poor compared to CD2, which is amazing. Alternative mixes of Dido, Spiller "Cry Baby", Motorcycle "When the rush comes". David Bowie vs Scumfrog appears with an excellent "Loving The Alien". "Janeiro" by Solid Sessions is so, so chilled and takes my mind to another dimension. In a nutshell, this is probably the greatest Euphoria of all time. From beginning to end, it is absolutely flawless! CD 2 perhaps having the edge over CD 1. I bought this for £7.5 of amazon second-hand. The sleeve however is not very secure so make sure you make copies of this if you by it.
