The Knife: Deep Cuts (Album Review)
Review of Deep Cuts - Knife (The) by
Miskin
Advantages: Original, Breakthrough, Heartbeats.
Disadvantages: Like Marmite.
...their formation in 1999.
Deep Cuts was their second album, released in 2003 and the most astonishing thing about it is its originality. The Knife adhere to no rules, and with Deep Cuts, as with all their albums you embark upon a journey which is immensely enjoyable from beginning to end. There is something haunting, fascinating and appealing about lead singer Karin Anderssons voice. It sounds as strange and different as the backing music which is ... ...track 'pass this on'.
Deep Cuts is off course best known for the song 'Heartbeats'. It recieved more attention after having been covered acousticly by Jose Gonzalez, however as any Knife fan would tell you, nothing beats the original, and with some decent speakers and a lot of bass, this is a song that will blow you away, the opening bass line is piercing and makes it a true anthem. The song has been remixed for clubs by various artists. 'You Take ...

Best played loud
Review of Deep Cuts - Knife (The) by
Thomas_H
Advantages: Dance music with a twist
Disadvantages: Can't imagine it would be everyone's cup of tea
Deep Cuts is the second full length album from Swedish electropop duo The Knife. Released in the UK in 2004, I only found this record after Jose Gonzalez's cover of Heartbeats was released, and oh, how I wish I had found it earlier! Since first hearing them, I have purchased all three of the band's albums, and Deep Cuts is definitely the most accessible.
Karin Dreijer Andersson's enigmatic voice and poignant lyrics compliment the band's indie-influenced ... ...of a massive PA; it is dance music with a sort of intimacy. The pair's famed eccentricity does not seem to be conveyed in this record; instead Deep Cuts is 14 tracks of genuinely well-written pop music. If you like synths and drum loops, this is for you! ...

Outstanding
Review of Decksandrumsandrockandroll - Propellerheads by
gches
Advantages: Best album for a long time...
Disadvantages: Nothing
I didn't buy this album at first as I thought it wouldn't be something I'd like, but once I bought it, I couldn't get enough.... The Props have created such a piece of excellence it's unreal. The album blends extremely different sounds, and long before it's become trendy to do duets with fading stars (Tom Jones et al), they did a song here with Shirley Bassey, which is one of the best on the album.
By far the best song for me if On Her Majestys ... ...They just have a way of capturing emotion in a rhythm, and blendin in basslines, cool sounds, and old style snippets that never cease to please. Of course the only problem is that if you meet other Prop fans you'll end up saying the phrase 'I may have bigger poems, my my' too often!...
Wheres the next album then... ...

Pedulum In Silico
Review of In Silico - Pendulum by
simplysteve
Advantages: Original, POUNDING BASS
Disadvantages: naff lyrics!
...dry and generally meaningless but in this type of music you expect that.
To describe it is a Prodigy for the next generation is fair i think and this album really is a classic already.
The general feel of the tracks is similar, with one or two exceptions, the receipe being an acoustic start, heavy build up and powerful, low frequency repetitive and catchy taglines.
Since i've owned it, It's been on loop in my car CD player wowing my friends with ...

Bonobo - Dial 'M' For Monkey (2003)
Review of Dial M For Monkey - Bonobo by
Morellli
Advantages: composition, easy listening, sound quality
Disadvantages: none
...with some smooth downtempo in Dial 'M' For Monkey, delivering quality tracks like "Noctuary" and "Flutter". This album carries a slow, measured ambience that caresses the soul.
Downtempo (or Downbeat) is a very laid-back style of electronic music, similar to ambient music. It's usually permeated with funky head bobbing rhythms, the stressed beat coinciding with the downtempo e.g. the first and third beat of every measure (a segment of time in musical ... ...corresponds to the uptempo.
Dial 'M' for Monkey makes use of looped jazz riffs and simple yet mesmerizing basslines, always letting the consumer retain more with each listen. In fact, Bonobo is best appreciated in its subtlety and "little" sounds. It's easy to listen to, as it has the tendency to migrate to the back of the mind, but it also has a lot of depth for those who are willing to pay close attention.
Every single track is high quality, ...
