Mmmm Underworld I Love You
Advantages: A trio of exceptional tracks and the rest are generally of high quality. Typically high Underworld production standards, even down to the inlay card. Great value at current prices. Disadvantages: A few duller moments and it's starting to age a bit.
Underworld's 1993 debut album "Dubnobasswithmyheadman" is far deeper than their recent work and contrasts especially with some of their more famous songs. "Born Slippy Nuxx" and "King Of Snake", for example, would sound completely out of place on this deep, dark and generally ambient album. The majority of songs are composed from three simply yet highly effective elements: a deep, varied bassline, an unhurried beat, and the obscure, rambling lyrics ... ...part "Dubnobasswithmyheadman" is constructed in this manner. Take the opening track "Dark & Long", a seven-and-a-half minute epic which progresses into a low-key climax with slightly seductive vocals built around a conventional 4/4 beat pattern. It is actually quite reminiscent of their remix of Bjork's "Human Behaviour", for those who have heard it. The exquisitely-titled "Mmm Skyscraper I Love You" is more vocal with some wonderfully rhythmic, ...

Underworld is top of the world
Advantages: Nice track sampling, variation of styles & beats Disadvantages: Inconsistencies, voice-overs don't work
...a review specific to their Beaucoup album, just a general commentary on the band. I first heard them while on holiday in New York a couple of weeks ago. My boyfriend loves them although he has yet to see them in concert or buy any of their albums, choosing the MP3 option instead. However, listening to one of his mini disks of the band I have to say Underworld are really growing on me and that's coming from a person who doesn't generally like dance/techno ... ...Pie. Okay, so it take a minute or two to really kick in from a generally slow intro beat. But as more multi-layered sample tracks are added the beat just becomes more & more hypnotic until you just can't stop your body from "tapping" along.
This remixed version ticks over for about 9 minutes and feels just a bit "samey" after a while but I still love it to bits. It's fairly light on the bass with nothing really harsh or bright to irritate your passive ...

My View
Advantages: This is a mix of dance and chill Disadvantages: I expected more from the album
This is only my second review EVER!!
I purchased this album on a bit of a whim really, a quest for new tunes to lend my ears too!!
This is at times very dancey and yet very chilled out. My personal favourites are "Trim", "Twist" and "Sola Sistim" - all three tracks are of a somewhat chilled out nature. I often listen to this album to unwind and re-charge the batteries. There are the released songs of "two months off" and "Luetin" which i am sure ... ...The weakest song in my opinion is Ess Gee - it is very much a nothingness!!
The song "Dinosaur Adventure 3D" is a song that i am sure still get played 4 years on at big club events.
And where can you purchase this album - i purchased it at CD-Wow for 8.75, however it is normally on offer at HMV for the two albums for .........
This album is a mixed bag, but it is an album i am glad i have!! ...

Second album blues?
Advantages: One for completists; it ain't all that bad. Disadvantages: Not Underworld at their best, by any stretch of the imagination.
Second Toughest In The Infants (STITI from here on in) is the second album from UK dance band Underworld. Released in 1996, it attempted to follow on from the excellent Dubnobasswithmyhead man. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it fails to satisfy.
Having bought this album after hearing the Mercury-nominated Beaucoup fish, and having since bought Dubnobass... I can only describe STITI as a disappointment. The tracks feel generic and not very inventive ...

The "Miles_Gurtu" experiment
Advantages: A blend of intricate beats, varied jazzy melodies and experimental soundscapes. Disadvantages: Over-tweaking disrupts the ambience occasionally. No mainstream appeal. Some tracks don't work.
Take a Swiss-Italian ambient trance producer (Robert Miles) and blend together with an Indian percussionist (Trilok Gurtu). Add other talented musicians to the mix and allow to simmer gently, making sure you season generously with electronic sculpting and processing. The resulting album is an interesting fusion of acoustic instruments, electronic processed sounds, intricate beats, jazz and experimental soundscapes. Released in 2004, “MilesGurtu” ... ...the dream trance that he became famous for. It builds on his previous album “Organik” (released in 2001), which was his first attempt at creating an experimental sound. This album is characterised by being completely instrumental although 3 tracks feature vocal samples. Double bass, strings, guitar and rhodes performances feature frequently, creating delicate melodies whilst complex beats are generated from drums and tabla. Many tracks shift and ...
