The Knife, cutting through music with a new style
Review of Silent Shout - Knife (The) by NegativeG

Advantages: Very different, some nice songs on there
Disadvantages: Might be a bit too wierd for some, last two tracks were a bit weak

This album is quite unique in its style. The music is mainly electronic with some weird singing and some unusual angles to approach music to. It might sound bizarre, but it is a good album. It's an eleven track album and many of the songs have a strange feel about them. For example, "The Captain" starts off with a feedback type noise that makes a slow, varying tune for a couple of minutes before anything else really comes in. Some tracks really ...
...is no drum beat. They are very fond of unusual singing and unusual lyrics and really seem to like their use of the multi-tap delay effect which can sound really bad, but these are masters of the effect. Highlights of the album include Neverland (on of my favourites), We Share Our Mother's Health and Marble House. All amazing songs. I wasn't so keen on the end of the album, the last two tracks were a bit of a let-down for me, but perhaps thats just ... Read review

Cutting Through The Electronic Barriers
Review of Silent Shout (+DVD) - Knife (The) by Tubthumper17

Advantages: Good for dancing or chilling out, great tracks, 2 CDs and 1 DVD for around £12
Disadvantages: None

I got into The Knife after hearing Like A Pen when a friend took the "Silent Shout" album round for background music during a game of poker. After the first listen of this album, the poker became part of the background as we listened to this. I have never been into the electronic genre, but I am now starting to make in roads to it, as this album has really opened my eyes as to what is out there. It surprises me to know that they are not that well ...
...Silent Shout This album takes you in on the first listen, and the title track starts with a thumping bass, which you'd maybe expect to find in a dance track, but 10 seconds in, it opens up with the keyboard. It's a song you could dance to, as well as just chill out to. 9/10 Neverland This is also another good mixture of keyboards, drums and bass. Not my favourite song on the album, but I love the breakdown at 1:54 which lasts until 2:58. 7/10 ... Read review

The Knife: Deep Cuts (Album Review)
Review of Deep Cuts - Knife (The) by Miskin

Advantages: Original, Breakthrough, Heartbeats.
Disadvantages: Like Marmite.

...their formation in 1999. Deep Cuts was their second album, released in 2003 and the most astonishing thing about it is its originality. The Knife adhere to no rules, and with Deep Cuts, as with all their albums you embark upon a journey which is immensely enjoyable from beginning to end. There is something haunting, fascinating and appealing about lead singer Karin Anderssons voice. It sounds as strange and different as the backing music which is ...
...track 'pass this on'. Deep Cuts is off course best known for the song 'Heartbeats'. It recieved more attention after having been covered acousticly by Jose Gonzalez, however as any Knife fan would tell you, nothing beats the original, and with some decent speakers and a lot of bass, this is a song that will blow you away, the opening bass line is piercing and makes it a true anthem. The song has been remixed for clubs by various artists. 'You Take ... Read review

Best played loud
Review of Deep Cuts - Knife (The) by Thomas_H

Advantages: Dance music with a twist
Disadvantages: Can't imagine it would be everyone's cup of tea

Deep Cuts is the second full length album from Swedish electropop duo The Knife. Released in the UK in 2004, I only found this record after Jose Gonzalez's cover of Heartbeats was released, and oh, how I wish I had found it earlier! Since first hearing them, I have purchased all three of the band's albums, and Deep Cuts is definitely the most accessible. Karin Dreijer Andersson's enigmatic voice and poignant lyrics compliment the band's indie-influenced ...
...of a massive PA; it is dance music with a sort of intimacy. The pair's famed eccentricity does not seem to be conveyed in this record; instead Deep Cuts is 14 tracks of genuinely well-written pop music. If you like synths and drum loops, this is for you! ... Read review

Pedulum In Silico
Review of In Silico - Pendulum by simplysteve

Advantages: Original, POUNDING BASS
Disadvantages: naff lyrics!

...dry and generally meaningless but in this type of music you expect that. To describe it is a Prodigy for the next generation is fair i think and this album really is a classic already. The general feel of the tracks is similar, with one or two exceptions, the receipe being an acoustic start, heavy build up and powerful, low frequency repetitive and catchy taglines. Since i've owned it, It's been on loop in my car CD player wowing my friends with ... Read review
