Advantages: contains one of the most beautiful songs ever written Disadvantages: the rest pales in comparison
This album I bought purely because it contained my all time fave track, teardrop. As a fan of female vocalists I initially felt that the rest of the album was not for me, but on listening to it as a progression of tracks I have come to find that it has grown on me. however, I am still personally drawn to the female vocals on tracks such as 'Angel'. 'Inertia creeps' is a well written and musically excellent track as it does just what its title expresses, ... ...in mind of the black beetle on the cover..eeugh
I still think that this CD is worth buying just for 'teardrop' though, as it shines like the light reflected from such beyond the rest of the music contained here. 'teardrop' can melt your heart, the vocal style so light and airy it breezes through your mind stirring the notions of desire for a love as transient as rain, as lasting yet refreshing and cathartic as the moment tears evaporate in the heat ...
Advantages: Sound design. Interesting soundscapes. Sinead O'Connor. Disadvantages: Melodic content non existent. Slightly dodgy production in areas.

Massive Attack's albums are great listening experiences (before this one) - in particular Mezzanine. And their singles (before the singles from this album) were very memorable - most noticeably Teardrop - from Mezzanine.
On ... ...sounds so 'samey'. Massive Attack are great at creating soundscapes - and that is something they have achieved very well on this album as well. The problem with this album - is that there is not a lot on top of those soundscapes - it's all very well doing sound design - but you have to have something that interest the ears - otherwise this music might as well be lounge music.

...won't be disappointed either. Although Protection is less electronic than their next album, it still leans more towards drum-and-bass than anything else (apart from trip-hop, of course). Be prepared for more lyrics, however, and tunes more like 'Teardrop' than 'Angel'. I wouldn't rate this above or below the other MA albums, because all three are a necessary progression and each good in their own way. Buy them all and you won't be disappointed. ...
Advantages: On the limmited edition it has all the music videos on it as well! An excellent touch I think! Disadvantages: The cover is the only downside that I have found, it looks nice now but after time it's going to be a bit scruffy as it's made like a hard back book with no plastic covering.
Collected is a true master piece and one that Massive Attack should be proud of. It pulls together everything they have achieved over the years and pulled it together into one neat little CD. Also just for the added touch they have released a limited edition two disk version which includes all of their videos on CD 2 which I have found to make for an interesting viewing. The first CD includes all their great tracks such as Protection, Teardrop, Unfinished ...

Massive attack have undoubtedly broken through many barriers whilst creating their own amazinf form of music attracting many admirers and many imitators, whom never quite manage to acheive the same success. This album demonstrates them at their peak with hit after hit showing their diverse msucial talents and roots. The classic massive attack anthem unfinsished symphony, everybody has heard and knows this song tops off a fantastic collection of current ... ...that they are not passed their best as they deliver another classic, with a slow groove and an amazing vocal perfromance. There are some amazing vocal performances on this album and they on their own demand listening. However the only place this album falls down are in some of the older tracks, no doubting they are worth a listen but what was once groundbreaking now can sound boring and dated and occasionally, very occasionally, the song length can ...
