Advantages: An overall good album Disadvantages: mildly similar sounding songs
...May i start off by saying that i'm no hardcore fan of Alkaline trio but like their stuff and bought the new album as i enjoyed the last.
Alkaline Trio formed in 1997 with the intent of creating a sound that hadn't been heard before a kind of melodic dark punk grunge sound. In 1998 they released "Goddamnit", then in 2000 came "Maybe I'll catch fire" 2001 was when it really kicked off for the trio with the release of "From here to ther infirmary" this album got the attention of a global audience with singles including "Stupid Kid" and "Private eye".
When you first press play on your cd player and you hear the intro to "Time to waste" your first thought is the trio are back. "Time to waste" is a great accomplishment. Lyrically it's tight and as with most trio songs the melody and harmony between the guys is unique and will soon...

"The Guitar Trio" Review ofGuitar Trio, The - Paco De Lucia/John McLaughlin/Al Di Meolaby
01dbate
Advantages: Great Album Disadvantages: Price
..."The Guitar Trio" of Paco De Lucia, Al DiMeola, and John McLaughlin join together again to perform their magic again with this stunning album. Although it has the same premise as their "Friday Night Live In San Francisco", there are some big differences. One, it's not live, and two, twenty years have passed. Although it is missing a bit of that live energy, this is an incredible album.
The Trio work well together taking turns soloing over the tune. The liner notes are kind enough to tell which of the guitar virtuosos is taking the solo. On most of the tunes, they each take one solo. Not only do they share the solo work, the share the composition work each taking the pen to write several songs each. The playing moves from fast and furious, to slow and peaceful. The rhythms are almost all Latin with a flamenco feel to them.
Once again...

Advantages: All round good songs and lyrics Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit mix and match here and there
...to a soft cushion! There's a soft guitar tune to start off, followed by gentle strumming throughout with poetic lyrics over it.
We now move on to one of the strong points on the album, the explosive Clavicle. This song has got a great guitar riff and Matt Skiba's voice really makes you sit up, turn your ear to the speaker and pay full attention. Clavicle is followed by My Little Needle. This isn't the best song on the album, but it's still quite enjoyable and has typical Alkaline Trio lyrics.
Track 9, Southern Rock, is not a typically popular song, but I like it. It has a really punchy guitar tune with vocals to match. A very energetic song.
The next track is one of my favourites, Message From Kathlene. There are some really strong lyrics, backed by fantastic guitar playing and a great drum beat. The chorus sees both Skiba and Andriano...
