Phenomenon Review ofElton John - Elton Johnby

Advantages: Some great songs Disadvantages: Some naff songs
There was a time when Elton John was a pretty essential artist in the rock and roll scene. Born in 1948, the same year as David Bowie, the two of them were up and coming talents at the end of the 1960's and exploded onto the scene in the early part of the new decade. Bowie's emergence came with Space Oddity, while Elton had to wait a little bit longer for the over sentimental Your Song. However, that's where the similarity ended, with Bowie the epitome ... ...for odd clothes. Elton may have been a figure of fun for most of his career, but he was undoubtedly a key figure in the period between 1970 and 1976 before lapsing into a morass and losing his way after the highly Americanised Blue Moves in the latter year. Elton John was born as Reginald Kenneth Dwight and made his way as a composing talent in the Tin Pan Alley scene where he eventually found and teamed up with lyricist Bernie Taupin, kicking off ...

Advantages: Great Artist Disadvantages: Not Female..
Elton John...Been around Forever.. -------------------------------------- The first time I heard the name Elton John was in 1970 and he had just released a song called "Your Song"...It was a great song and it went right up the charts and then he also appeared as the piano player in the T Rex hit "Get it On".. He made his breakthrough when he released the fantastic "Rocket Man" in 1972, what a song... Hit after hit followed, great songs like "Don't ... ...more.. I like Elton John, and I like him because he has the courage to be himself. He doesn't try to make out he is any different from the boy called Reg Dwight that he started life as.. He still gets pleasure from watching football, if you call watching Watford football that is. He stated on the Parkinson show that when he went to a match he took a lot of friendly banter about him being gay but he went along with it and wasn't a bit bothered about ...

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
This is my favourite of all Elton's albums. I bought it on vinyl years ago (remember lp's?) and recently replaced it with the cd version.
The opening track Funeral For A Friend is one of Elton's finest, although it is entirely instrumental (until it runs into the next track, Love Lies Bleeding). It's one of those tracks you really have to listen to in a darkened room at full volume to get the full benefit.
Other favourites ... ...- brilliant piano intro drives on through some amazing lyrics.
Candle In The Wind - a classic, obviously. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - the title track - try not singing along to this one.
It's well worth getting the new CD (in the Classic years colection) because they've added extra sleeve notes to the original.
Please rate this opinion before you leave - thanks! ...

MADE IN ENGLAND Review ofElton John - Elton Johnby
michellej
Advantages: A COUPLE OF GOOD TRACKS Disadvantages: A COUPL OF DUDS
...the number one ‘Diva’, Sir Elton John.
The tantrums that this boy has are worse than my daughters! (and that’s really saying something!) However, he is and always will be a magician when it comes to making music. Although he suffered from some backlash about his sexuality, that didn’t stop him from writing and performing some of the most rememberable songs of today, such as the song dedicated to Diana, Princess of Wales ‘Candle ... ...wasn’t really, but that’s besides the point! This is yet another great album from Elton john and you can guarantee more hits from him will always be around. Tracks include:
Believe
Made In England House
Cold
Pain Belfast
Latitude
Please
Man
Lies
Blessed ...

Advantages: he can't be around forever Disadvantages: cryogenics might advance significantly
I wish someone would put this awful man out of my misery. If it was just the case that you could choose to listen to him that would be okay because I would not. However, he seems to be as ubiquitous as water. He’s either singing one of is dreadful dirges on the television or getting himself on the front page of the newspapers for suing some one (yet again).
I wish I had been a lawyer at one of these trials. First questions: Would you consider ... ...other than your given name? Why did you insist for years that you were not a homosexual? Why do you pretend to be a man of the people when in fact you are just a spendthrift old git?
No wonder the modern world is so f***ed up. Eminem (another git) is considered a bad role model while this chump is lauded all of the bloody time regardless of what he does. Spend money like there’s no tomorrow yet make a charity record for the starving millions ...

Advantages: Music for All Ages Disadvantages: None
...Love him or hate him the name EltonJohn is one that we have all heard of at some time in our life.
He has made a multitude of songs spanning over thirty years and has performed with artists all over the world. His record sales worldwide have topped the 100 million mark and out of the 30 plus albums he has made no less than 7 have been consecutive number ones in the usa.
This particular double cd has all the hallmarks of an artist of great standing and his music speaks volumes. His partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin is put together in 2 cd\'s of 30 songs which seem to have their very own genre. Its hard to put it in a catagory but when listened to i see it as mood music. It has ups and downs and depending on how you feel will determine which songs you choose.
I purchased this album a few years ago after knowing a fair few songs...

Advantages: Quality of production, music & lyrics Disadvantages: Gloomy cover, will take ages to 'grow on you'
...It had been two & a half years since a little known musician called EltonJohn & his lyricist Bernie Taupin first met. In that time they got a job writing songs for Dick James Music publishers but had failed to get anyone's attention. They had released a coupe of singles but they had sunk without trace & even released an album called Empty Sky which failed to make any impression on the public.
They had even submitted a song for Lulu in the 1969 Eurovision song contest but it came last when it came to a public vote, 'Boom bang-a-bang' won instead. So as you can imagine moral was very low between the two of them.
It was January 1970, the start of new decade & for them the chance for a new start. They had written some more songs & a basic recording of 'Your Song' was amongst them. Their first album 'Empty Sky' was produced by Steve...

Advantages: Totally original, funky sound, one of those albums that will be remembered simply for its originality Disadvantages: not all the songs are brilliant, the novelty does not last
.../Gorgeous 8/10
Back in business with this song. Electric beat, with many different synth effects. The bass line is awesome, and the guitar only adds. Shame it sounds too much like Bee Gees 'You should be dancing'
8. Music is the Victim 9/10
Very Funky bass line! Kicks in with some awesome piano, and all of a sudden, you have to slap yourself because you would swear it was EltonJohn. EltonJohn from the 70s, not the one we all know (and love?) from today. However, you know its not an EltonJohn song, because there is no way he could have wrote something this good!
9. Better luck 8/10
An ok song, but doesnt really kick in much, and gets a bit tiresome. Middle Eight is a nice break though. Perhaps we can have better luck with the next one
10. It cant come quickly enough 6.5/10
This song really throws you back. I know Ive...
